1. Great news Cath! Believe me the next 14 months will just whizz by Angie x
2. Hi Angela. You are in good company here - we all have the same objective but varying circumstances. How great that you have sold your house! That's a real bonus. We have just heard from Australia, 12 months after our initial application was acknowledged. They say a case office will be allocated in a few months and have asked us to arrange medicals and police checks in the meantime, so I think the waiting time for us will be 14-16 months. Good luck with everything. Angie
3. Hi Val. Great news!. I had an idea that you would not be far behind us hearing something. Might have been the same day if they had got your email address right!! Nearly there!!! Angie
4. Hi John & Eirian Seems you have a similar situation to us then. Our son is 40, married and very content to stay here in the UK. At least we know he is happy so that's some comfort. I had to smile at your quote 'Eye-watering' apartment prices - we might just about manage to buy a garden shed at this rate!! - Good luck with your plans and the final move in September. Angie & Ted
5. Thanks for your lovely post Val! It's good to know that we are not alone in all this. Angie x
6. Hi Val. Yes it is the same area. Our daughter has recently moved from Manly West and now lives in Birkdale (closer to the kids school in Wellington Point) We haven't been over since they moved so not sure what it's like in the new area but we know Wynnum and Manly well and it's lovely there. We are really looking forward to going now but also sad to leave family and friends. We still have a son living in the UK - luckily he is very supportive of our decision to live in Oz but it's still difficult. We have booked our medicals for next Thursday and the police check forms went today. Still keeping my figures crossed that you will hear something soon. Keep us posted! Angie
7. Hi Val. You shouldn't be too long before you hear something too! Our daughter also lives in Redland Bay and loves it. Things do seem to be moving so I'll keep my figures crossed for you. Angie
8. 12 months after our application was acknowledged there is now some activity. Received an email on Saturday morning to say that we will be allocated a CO in the next few months and to arrange for our medicals and Police checks. They also asked for our sponsor to contact Centrelink. Figures crossed we don't have the same problems as others have recently experienced with Centrelink! Anyway good luck to everyone! Angie
9. Hi Moira Here's the link Alan Collett posted. I haven't read it thoroughly yet but I believe it may give you the answer you need. Angie
10. 'Class of 2012' I like that!! Does seem like it though. Good luck with the house - we are in the same position.
11. Great news! Our acknowlegement date was 10 June 2011 so gives us hope that we may hear something in the next couple of months! Good luck with everything! Angie
12. Wow!! How fantastic is that? Just shows how quickly things can change and very often for the better. Good luck to you both. Angie Angie
13. I had to ask the same question too. Yes you do have to have photocopies of the certified copies certified. We had ours done by a local Solicitor. We took in the photocopies and the originals and they just stamped and signed them to certify they were true copies. Can't remember how much they charged but it wasn't much. There's a list of who can certify copies on the Oz immigration site - they include doctors, police, JP's etc. Angie
14. What a lovely positive post Bettyboowho. Just what me and hubby need to give us a boost! Thanks! Angie
15. Hi Ann. I feel just the same. It's definitely the financial side that bother me most - still living in hope that the £ will rally at some point!! Luckily the money or lack of it doesn't worry my other half so that helps me be more positive. For now we are concentrating on preparing as much as we can before we get our CO like getting the house ready to sell and ridding ourselves of stuff we won't be taking. I'm certain we are doing the right thing but just have to keep reminding myself ha ha!
16. Hi Val. If the correspondence details are the same as for lodging the initial visa application then anything by courier goes to The Parent Visa Centre, Wellington Central, 836 Wellington Street, West Perth, WA 6005 Australia whereas its the 'Locked Bag 7' address for mailed post. Here's the link from the Immigration website: http://www.immi.gov.au/migrants/family/parent/143/how-to-apply.htm#h We haven't had to submit anything since the actual application but I would assume it would go to the same place. Maybe someone else can confirm this. Angie
17. Hi Ann. I asked this very same question a few weeks ago and Sandch gave the following helpful reply... Angie "We also opened an account with HSBC many years ago in Perth because it was a global bank - but it's a bit misleading. The Australian HSBC has very different systems, and feels like a small organisation out here. There are very few branches in Australia (see http://www.hsbc.com.au/1/2/misc/locations). Our HSBC account is now inactive and we do all our banking with Westpac. We also experienced a challenge paying the final visa fee, having moved it in dollars to HSBC Australia first. In the end, after first setting up the fax indemnity and then two faxes (the first got lost), they would only send a bank draft to our home address, not to DIAC directly. So it came to England and then we couriered it back to Perth. So be aware, though if it is more convenient it's still an option; HSBC is a solid bank, we've been with them in the UK for decades. I would however avoid buying foreign currency via any high street bank."
18. Hi everyone. It's interesting reading all the posts from those who have just made the move or are about to. We are still a long way off and busy preparing. We are looking at bank account options and thought of opening up a Bank account with HSBC here in the UK as they have worldwide branches. It seems a fairly staightforward way of transferring money over to Oz to fund the 2nd visa payment unless, of course, you have to be in Australia to valid the account there before you can make a payment out. Has anyone else gone down this route? thanks, Angie and Ted
19.
Hi Fiz. Thanks so much for taking the trouble to let me know which removal company you went with. This is so helpful. All the best for your new life in Oz. Angie

20. Hi Fiz. We will be looking at quotes next year so I would really appreciate the information please by PM. Many thanks. Angie
21. Hi Fiz. Gosh it's really happening for you! We have just started the whole process and it is hard to imagine that we might one day actually be living in Australia. We talk about it like we talk about winning the lottery (I wish) but it's almost like a dream. We were wondering about the house and whether to sell now instead of later - at least it's one of the main hassles out of the way; if we sell of course. Appears to have been the right thing for you. All the best and have a lovely life in Sydney! Angie
22. What a dilemma for you. The propect of losing the cost of the first VAC is not nice. It seems to me so unfair to charge the same amount again if you change the type of visa. I can understand they have to charge something but this is exortionate! Surely until a CO is appointed there can't have been much work done on processing. Maybe I'm wrong in my assumptions but it seems initially most of the hard work is done by us. However that's the way it is - the Oz government holds all the strings! I do Hope things work out for you. Angie
23. Not at all. Everyone has different experiences which is why this forum is so useful. It's really good to learn of the options available. Thanks. Angie
