  1. Well we've sent off our 143 application and the 1st payment has been taken so I guess we'll get our acknowlegment soon. We're going to consider something we read on previous posts about 'drip' feeding our money over to Oz. Question is do we open an account in our own name or ask our daughter to open up a savings account in her name? I've looked on the NAB site and although we can open an account ourselves and deposit monies, it seems we can only withdraw after a personal visit to a branch in Australia. We won't be going before we are (hopefully) granted our visas so this won't be of any use to pay the final big one!! Any thoughts? Thanks Angie
  2. Hello there. I wish I could magic something to make everything okay for you - if only it was that easy. It's a shame your sister and mum are making it harder for you. Of course it's natural they will miss you but it will become easier as time goes on. Change is inevitable; even if you stayed in the UK your life would be constantly changing as it does for us all. You have a great reason for wanting to make the move - to be a grandma - there is no better reason! Good luck! Angie
  3. Hi Val. We have given some serious thought to buying a cabin as there appears to be quite a few parks around the Brisbane area and it's an affordable option. From what you say it will definitely be worth looking into. Thanks for that! Angie
  4. Hi Phoebe I know exactly where you're coming from - it's so so difficult! We have only just started (our application goes off tomorrow) and already I feel much is against us. Apart from the emotional side of leaving family and friends, the strong $ is making it so much harder. We thought at first that we would be able to buy a small place but now know this is just a dream and we will have to rent. We are both nearly 60 and with good luck will be able to find jobs to help pay the rent and meet new friends. We don't kid ourselves it's going to be easy - we'll be leaving the prospect of a fairly comfortable life in the UK. However we both have good health at the moment which is something we can't guarantee for the future and what then? There will come a time when we might not even be able to travel to Australia for a holiday and I know for sure we will regret not taking this opportunity. So for us there is only one way and that is down under, whatever the consequences! I do hope things work out for you both. Don't give up - you are most definitately not on your own!! Angie  x
  5. Didn't realise we will also have to complete this form eventually. I assume it is just before you leave for Australia. I had quick look at the questions and will struggle with 'countries visited outside Australia in the last 10 years'. We have been on quite a few holidays within the EU for no more than 2 weeks at a time but as for dates? Beyond the last two years I would definitely have to make a guess. Angie
  6. I'll bear that in mind for the next trip. However I'm one of those strange people that look forward to the in-flight food! I might miss out if I sleep most of the journey! lol Angie
  7. Thank you for that Janey. I hope ours gets acknowleged as quickly! Angie
  8. Thank you Mike. You have confirmed my instinct to go with what booklet 3 instructs. We've only just started and already it's like 'pulling teeth' arghh.... Angie
  9. Help! We are nearly ready to send off our CPV application form to Perth and thought the address to send it to by courier would be simple! The instructions in Booklet 3 clearly state that if you are lodging you application outside Australia by Courier then it should go to: Wellington Central, Level 3, 836 Welington St, West Perth WA 6005. However the Immigration department in Perth replied to one of my emails (on another query) and said that the application MUST be sent to: Locked Bag 7, Northbridge WA 6865. when I queried it with them and told them we were sending by courier, not mailing, they still replied with the same answer. I've just phoned them and the pre-recorded message states the same as booklet 3! We don't want to get something as basic as this wrong so could I possibly ask you nice people which address others have sent their application to by courier. We don't want to use normal mail for obvious reasons. Many thanks. Angie
  10. No we couldn't understand either. I think it's maybe that I mentioned we were thinking of asking the post office to certify the documents as they will sign up to 4 for a £7 fee. So perhaps whoever replied from Perth wasn't really sure and went for an option they knew for certain would be acceptable. Anyway we have now got them all certified as true copies of the originals by a local Solicitor for £20 in total which we thought was reasonable. Thanks to everyone who replied. Angie
  11. Hi. We are nearly ready to submit our CPV application and emailed Perth with a couple of queries, one being who could certify our Birth and Marriage certificates in the UK. We thought maybe a solicitor but just wanted confirmation. However they are recommending we get them certified in Australia! They say our daughter can arrange this for us. Has anyone else been advised to do this when they applied offshore? Thanks, Angie
  12. Hello. My husband and I are in the process of applying for a subclass 143 CPV which we hope to submit before 1st July. The form seems straightforward enough and our circumstances are not complicated. However one of the questions on form 47PA asks if we have held or currently hold a visa for travel to Australia and if so to note the visa number. We have both been to Australia twice on a tourist visa but have no visa number on our passports; just the usual immigration stamp with the date we arrived and departed. Does anyone know how we go about getting the visa number? Many thanks Angie
