  1. Hi me and my husband are coming to Melbourne on the 3rd October. We will be in the city for the first 3 months looking for work and then moving out to the eastern suburbs after that. Happy to meet up with anyone around October. We are 31 and 34, no kids.
  2. Hello, Bit of a strange one I know. We are coming over at the beginning of October and I am trying to think of presents to get family for Christmas as we are thinking it may be easier to leave them here than send them 2 months later from Australia. Money is tight because we are saving like crazy so I am thinking about getting something per family. Does anyone have any suggestions. I am blank, hehe!!! Between us we have 2 sisters and a brother, 2 nephews and a niece, and 2 mum's and dad's. Help!!! Argh!
  3. Thank you for replies. Think it looks like I will have to give in and up my budget a bit I have found hotel/backpacker place that will do it for $420 a week. I know I can get a room for $330 a week literally down the road from this hotel as it is where I stayed for 5 months in 2005 and thats the price they charge now. But not sure hubby will be too happy with me as it is very backpackery (not a real word I know) and at 31 and 34 I cant see him being too impressed...hehe!.
  4. Hello, I have been looking on every website I can think of, google or have read about on here. My husband and I are looking to get a double/twin room for the first month or maybe more when we get to Melbourne whilst we sort out jobs. Our budget is very small as we dont want too touch our savings too much before we actually find work. I know from when I came over in April that you can get shared accommodation etc for under $300 a week but it seems impossible to find anything that I can book for that price from this country. Does anyone know of anything available from 3rd October? Any ideas would be much appreciated.
  5. Hi, We had doree bonner. Putting it in storage for a bit and then shipping around xmas. I think we are going to try and find furnished accomodation to start with as it is just me and hubby. Most weeks/weekends between now and when we go i am busy so i can imagine it will fly. Crazy... Double Summer though... happy days
  6. Hello all, It all seems so much more real after today. The shipping company came this morning and were packed up and gone by half 3. Empty house now... Living with parents for 2 months and then off to Melbourne on 1st October. I cant wait. Just need to sort work out now. Slightly scary... Is anyone else going to Melbourne in September/October?? Gem
  7. Hi Please help if you can. Removal people are coming on Thursday and I am trying to fill out the insurance form, how itemised do you have to be? I have lots of little ornaments that would be a real pain to count, and clothes, etc... do you have to count everything. I have probably over 300 children's books and stacks of resources that I have printed and or laminated. Any idea how specific I have to be? Would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  8. Hi, Just wondering what you would all do... in a bit of a dilemna. Based on £10k (for example) the insurance for 6 months storage and shipping would cost £230 with 3rd party. With shipping company it would be £400. Seems like a no brainer, BUT 3rd party charge £250 excess on whatever you claim, (not each thing you claim)...so what would you do? Pay more at the start but if small things break you can claim easily or pay less at the start but only make claims if big things go wrong...Arghhh!!! I am so bad at making decisions. Please help. Thanks
  9. hi, not fully answering your question, but i just had my early years degree assessed my acecqa so that i can teach. you could try that first??? it cost $110 and although they say on website it takes 8 weeks, it took less than 2 for me.
  10. Hi, I havnt had much good news to celebrate in the last two months. But this morning I woke up to a positive ACECQA assessment. YAY!!!!!! Sending off VIT this week, but this assessment means I can start looking for early years teaching jobs. Hope everyone else is having a good day. Gem
  11. Hi, Im moving with OH in October I am pre primary/primary. Going on a 175. Validated it in April this year as couldnt go until October. Waiting for the last 2 bits of paperwork for VIT and just sent assessment for pre-primary as well. Hoping the form filling will soon be over
  12. Thanks everybody for your virtual hugs and posts. My grandad was 91 so I know he lived a good life, but still horrible without him. OH coming home tonight for a couple of days which will hopefully help. Just got home from part time job (left house to main job at 6.40 this morning...hehe! It's all good! Im going to have a real crack at bits on the next couple of nights and Sunday and hopefully I will feel more on top of things. OH is going to clean tools, bikes, golf clubs and sort the garden whilst he is home. Going to chill with a glass of wine now, but will keep everyone posted. Thanks again everyone
  13. Hi, I passed first time with 8.5's and 9's. I was panicking that I had failed the speaking part, because I have tendency to waffle at times, hehe! However got a 9 for it. I also got the book and CD thing cant remember where it was from. It really helped to know what to expect. Good Luck
  14. Hi all, Sorry to rant as I know I'm lucky enough to have my visa now, but just need to get it out. We are due to move to Melbourne on October 1st this year and I feel like I have so much to do. October is ages away, BUT I finish my job in 4 1/2 weeks and it is the busiest time of the year as a teacher with final assessments, reports, sports day, etc. 5 days after I finish Doree Bonner are coming to collect everything for storage and I am moving in with my family and out of rental where I am now. Along with everything else I also have a part time job to help with the finances and I am currently working one evening a week and all day/evening on saturday. When I have any spare time (lol) I am sorting through stuff to take/not take/clean, etc. OH works away a lot and is away most of the time at the minute to also aid finances. My grandad died last month as well which left me devastated because he was like my best friend, dad, etc. And now my nan is in hospital. I actually think Im starting to fall apart a little as I am so exhausted and pretty much on overdrive when I am working. Does anyone have any suggestions to get through the next 37 days. Arghhhh!!!!! Gem
