  1. Hi, i noticed a post on here that someone had opend an account with HSBC in Australia, i am in the process of finding out if this will be viable for me, i was intending putting funds from my account here into the HSBC in Australia to pay the 2nd Vac of the visa. Just wondered if anyone has done this or if it's a good route to take financially. Thanks Ann
  2. did you claim your tax back for the last year you left for oz, i have been told you can do this which i will do as every little helps if this is correct of course. After reading all the above it will be nice to get cash back rather than have it taken away. Ann
  3. Well i didn't know that if you come back you are not eligible for NHS care, i think thats an absolute disgrace after paying into it most of my life, not fair as others seem to get it who come into the country and haven't paid a penny into the system, have to say you learn something new every day on here, not always for the good though eh! Ann
  4. I signed this morning, i have paid up on my state pension and hate the thought i won't get the full benifit in years to come, i have worked hard like most for my pension. So hope they get the numbers. Ann
  5. Hi, good luck with the application, you will just be behind me in the queue waiting for a CO, i find i keep checking the tracker for progress on everone waiting for a co in the hope it's getting quicker. It's a mindful of information on here and like you am so grateful, i have a little notebook and jot down useful info i read on here, also recommenations of companies people are using , all the best Ann ( Gilly, on the tracker )
  6. Wishing you the best of luck, my son and his wife did some house sitting when they went back to perth a couple of years ago ,they always had somewhere to stay and the demand for good housesitters seemed in demand so i don't see you having any trouble there. Hope the next few weeks arn't to stressful for you and i wish you all you hope for on your next adventure. Ann
  7. Well done and here's wishing all the very best on your new life down under, i have been to Busselton on holiday and it's really beautiful down there. So glad you have all the stress out the way ( more or less ) and after all the wait your time has finally arrived. Well ,Perth winter is like our summer so it shouldn't be to much of a shock to the system. All the best Steve & Aileen:jiggy:
  8. I visit the tracker regularly since putting my name on there and thought it was all moving very slowly in getting a CO, shame really as it would give a good indication how quick the process was moving along if people updated their records, but as you say maybe folk have had to drop out which is a real shame. I do check the immigration queue aswell but it's confusing as i seem to have jumped from 340 to 100 in front of me in 2 months. I know it's approximate but that seems a huge jump to me. I do enjoy the tracker though to see how lucky people are progressing, Ann
  9. I too have just started the long wait, i now find myself wishing my life away waiting for a CO, i have loads to do in the meantime mind you but it doesn't stop me being impatient. I'ts great on here for info and support as someone has had a hurdle to cross to get their visa and only to willing to share their experience to help. Good luck with yours. Ann:biggrin:
  10. Lovely news, so pleased for you and wishing you all the happiness you wish for. Hope all goes smoothly for you from now on. Ann Yay!!!!!!
  11. Would love to hear the good names and the bad please, hoping to be packing myself next year. Good luck with the move Ann
  12. I have flown with both Singapore amd Emirates and of the two i would prefer Singapore, the crew on Singapore flights were wonderful friendly and helpful, i found the crew on Emirates surly and cold when approached for anything. I had an incident on my last flight in April this year were 3 people in front of me got very drunk, the younger women in her late 30s became verbally abusive to her mother and friend the language was in the gutter and this went on for 6 of the 7hrs last leg flight, the staff ignored them and let them continue drinking, the woman even fell between the seats at one point and her mother had to get her up and back in her seat she was no better swearing at her for making a show of her in front of all the people, her language was in the gutter too. all close by did not want to get involved for fear of making them worse, i wrote a strong letter of complaint to Emirates but felt i was fobbed off in my reply, maybe no-one else on that flight bothered to complain, i think they were all so grateful to be getting off for some peace and quite after such a long journey from perth. I like a drink on the plane but in moderation as it's there to be enjoyed not abused, i felt the staff should have stopped serving drinks when they were getting loud and abusive, i have never had this behaviour before and really hope it was a one off, to add insult to injury the women were from my home town:arghh: I have air miles with Emirates so will use them again, just hope i never come accross such rowdy passengers again.I flown business class once back from perth as i had an emergency back home, it was okay for the leg room but not worth what they charge. Hope after my next flight i won't be leaving perth for a long time :jiggy: Ann
  13. Hi Moira, i am just ahead of you i had my acknowledgement end of june, i have so much to do yet i find myself hoping i will be lucky enough to get a CO in 7-8mths, i think this is the worst part waiting, i have lots to do in my house in getting ready to rent it and need loads of time yet, still can't help wishing things along though. Like you said congatulations to all those who are on their way to oz.:jiggy:
  14. Hi Sue, good luck with the journey and so pleased you are now on your way to living the dream, like you i am going to let my house if i am successful with my application, if poss could you give me some info on the process of letting, are you using an agency to let the property and are their fee's high? i hear you have to have a landlords inspecton and every gas appliance checked. I imaging when you contact an agent they inform you on all you have to do and have inspected. Believe it or not letting my home is stressing me out more than the migration process. I wish you all you hope for and more..... best of luck. Ann :jiggy:
  15. Hi Kim, it was stated in my acknowledgement email that case officers were still dealing with applicants from May 2010, i lodged 29th june 2011 so i am guessing it will take maybe 12mths for a case officer. The only gratitude i have in it taking that long is n the hope the exchange rate improves, other than that i find i am wishing my life away for the months to pass just to get over there. Hope the time works out as you want to coincide with your plans. Ann:jiggy:
  16. Hi, i wonder if anyone has any knowledge or experience regarding paying tax on money recieved for renting property. Due to the poor exchange rate and fall in property prices i have decided to rent my house if i am successful with my application and shall rent in perth until such time things hopefully improve and then maybe sell up, i was wondering if you have to declare the rental income to the tax office here in the uk, also in oz too ?? Any info would be appreciated. Cheers Ann.
  17. I have mine in Bonds and i did notice on my last visit to perth in March that interest rates were %6, it has crossed my mind wether to open a bank account and start moving money over but i have only just had my acknowledgement and don't want to tempt fate by jumping the gun and like you have a long way to go yet, i can't see things improving in this country for a long time yet. Can anyone please tell me how i join the tracker list as i have just had my acknowledgement. :jiggy:Ann
  18. Hi Lindsay, good name by the way same as my daughter also spelt the same too, i live in Spital which is near a nice nature reserve near the Dibbinsdale woods, also sandwiched between Bromborough and Neston, i do like it here as the local countryside and coastline is lovely but Perth has so much more to offer, i rented a villa in Booragoon and spent a year there on and off, it gave me time to make sure the move was right for me, i didn't want to come back after the year was up. I now find i am wishing the weeks away for the next step and i haven't even been acknowledged yet, LOL. I now day dream as to where shall i live in Perth North or South of the river, at the moment i am swayed to the North and as i work in aged care i should find a job okay as i hear they are short of carers. I look at this site every day and read up on our thread and others too, i am sure i shall be shouting this way a lot for help. thanks for the reply Lindsay. Ann
  19. So nice to hear it's all happening for you, wishing you every happiness on your new life, don't you feel you just wish your life away, i have been waiting for this for years and have more or less put my life on hold knowing one day i would be starting this process, it will all be worth it though. Last leg for you and so exciting eh! All the very best. Ann:biggrin:
  20. And now the real stress begins as you all know......no doubt you will be hearing more from me in the future needing help and support.:arghh:
  21. Hello Moira, like you i love this site and use it more than Brit ex pats, i have just sent my papers off and waiting for the acknowledgement, it's a good feeling to finely be getting somewhere and feel like i am making some progress. good luck with the paperwork, they need so much information i was so glad i kept my old passport and diaries to confirm all my trips to OZ. Ann
  22. My son has only just got his PR and i have just lodged my application, he has lived in OZ for 10yrs. My agent was satisfied he ticked all the boxes needed to prove he is settled, he has his own business, just got married, owns his own house, owns a car, etc... I did have an application refused in 2005 as my son did not have his PR, i used an agent and was dissapointed at the time as i thought they should have known it would have been rejected. I will keep you informed on my progress.
  23. I contacted a friend of mine in OZ who works in admin in an age care home, she said the starting wage is $20 and as i have my NVQ3 in care and over 20yrs experience i would more than likely start on $23 and work my way up from there. Put my mind at rest as by the time i calculated rent, bills, fuel, food i would have been well skint. I won't be well off but it's manageable. Ann
  24. I will have to hope for full time work or more as by the time rent is paid, food, bills, it's not going to leave a lot for much else. But having said that the care job i have here with the council is in difficulty and we are about to lose our weekend enhancements, so i think i will fair better in OZ in the long run than i will here. Cheers Ann
