  1. Hi Gaz, this method uses the browser to bypass the regioning. The only way to get it through would be to hook up your laptop/desktop via hdmi, u may be able to stream from a console but not sure. I used the hdmi cable or stream through my smart TV from my PC network for local movies.
  2. did you click the link from within the unblocker or type the address in? Firefox or chrome?
  3. The reason I installed chrome was because some people were having issues with firefox and some of the sites were not playing. Personal preference to be honest, but does work with both.
  4. I know, I found it on another expat site last week, I voted for them to add 4OD and it was added this week. I also use Netflix from the states which is so much better than ours over here.
  5. I am sure everyone is aware of this who has sought no fuss UK/US TV through Iplayer/4OD/ITV Player and more US shows that you can shake a stick at. No VPN, through your browser direct (watch bandwidth though, you have been warned - I have 1000gb a month to use) You have to have Chrome installed, install the following unblocker. http://hola.org/unblocker.html You have to install it from Chrome. This latest version has been updated this week so you then need to click the american flag, click settings, click media unblocker, and there you have it. Been searching for this since I got here, weather is toss today so why not watch some TV lol. Enjoy!
  6. Completely agree with Sarah, I have sarcoidosis (auto immune) and have just started methotrexate, tried alternative for a couple of years and to be fair, should have just bit the bullet and saw my specialist sooner to get on the meds sooner. My method is only prescription price so not too dear, about 17 bucks for 10 weeks worth. Folic acid - not sure, about 17 bucks for 3 months worth. Medicare rebate me a percentage of my specialist costs, which are mahoosive, my sarcoid specialist is 450 a session, but he is one of the best in the world.
  7. Australia has its faults indeed, for me, no where near enough for me to want to move back to the UK but everyones experiences, needs, expectations and situations are different. For the OP then this was an episode that didnt work out. For me on the other hand, I have taken what Australia has thrown at me and adapted to what I think appropriate and where something isnt my "bag", outside of the political spectrum as I think the government is run by and will always be run my muppets, just steered a wide berth to manufacture my "mini world". I agree Australia is a very expensive place to live, and I am fortunate to have a very good job, after my Xmas "holiday". in Europe, and I went to France, Amsterdam and the UK, that 3 weeks finally sealed my UK is home chapter and now Australia has taken that mantle.
  8. Jobs on the gold coast are like hens teeth - would love one down here but they dont pay the same rates for contractors. If you come up you should give me a bell and we can meet for a drink and give you the low down.
  9. Hi like Debbie, I also do the commute every day and I work on Eagle Street in the CBD. I live in Coomera Waters which is also nice and catch the train from Coomera. I tend to go early and catch the 610 and you can always get a seat. A little trick for coming back is to go to the valley and jump back on :-). Hope island is lovely and you are also not for from Sanctuary Cove and Paradise Point and also Helensvale for shopping. There are a lot of apartment complexes with houses and also Golf Course accommodation. I would stick to that side of the freeway. We haven't any kids yet, IVF starts this month, my wife is 34 and I am just 40.Good luck.
  10. We had this too, we moved from a 457 to an employer sponsored visa 856 within 6 months of getting here, now enjoying PR. My OH was a Psychologist for Queensland Health at the time. Suppose it depends on the skills, needs and wants of the individual. Not too sure its being brought forward as dont know if the 2 year rule is steadfast anyway, employer sponsored 856 does have its restrictions in that she had to work for QH for 2 years after the visa was granted. All good tho :-)
  11. We flew British Airways with a short stop 1.5 hrs in Singapore so the total flight time was under 24 hrs. Not sure how they go from Manchester tho, we went from Heathrow, two flight, 13.5 hrs and 8 hrs I think, not bad and got it over relatively quickly.
  12. People, put yourself in the shoes of the company, if you are going to spend, 100k plus on a person, would you want to see that person in person. The Australian market is a tough one unless you have a niche, Queensland especially now after the reform. I wouldn't employ anyone I couldn't see face to face unless they had some obscure skill that I needed from somewhere else. You cant just say I work in IT and I now want to work in Australia, Australia offers a crap load of lifestyle benefits to the people it wants. Getting in is tough and staying in is tougher. Remember Hungry Hippos, well if there was a thousand white balls (jobs) and a really small narrow mouthed frog, its an accurate representation of the market at the moment. Why would they employ someone remotely, when they have 500 people knocking on their door (literally)
  13. Thanks Quoll, just wondered if you take money out on the fly and it works if you get stung for the exchange rate?
  14. Thanks John, how long would the transfer take?
  15. Hi Cal We leave on the 18th, 2 nights in london, few days for xmas at home, paris on boxing day for 2 nights, train to amsterdam, 2 nights there, back the UK for a week and then a couple of nights in sydney. Flights for the two od us back were 7k so not cheap so its probably cehaper to pay for fam to come to me lol. Not looking forward to the cold but a cold xmas will be a novelty after 3 years lol
  16. Thanks Steve Will check it out. Just a pain if the cards dont work and at xmas, you dont want to be without any cash.
  17. Hi Everyone Just wondering what the best option is regarding easy access to money when we fly back to the UK at Xmas. We will have about 10k GBP and dont want to carry it with us, I wanted to transfer it to my sisters account in the UK but my wife is insisting we use our australian bank cards and UK cash. I remember when I came over here that our UK bank cards didnt work and I dont want that to happen over xmas. Anyone any ideas. We will be shooting to Paris and Amsterdam too. Cheers Sean
  18. 1k a day so no, you get what you pay for.
  19. Hi Moving, We arrived here over 3 years ago on a 457 and then had PR sponsorship 856 8 months later. Regards Sean
  20. Hi all My british passport expires in May next year and I am going back to the UK at Xmas. Do I need a special type of visa (RRV) and will my current passport be ok or should I renew? Thanks Sean
  21. Dan has pretty much summed it up. I contract on 1k a day and work in Brisbane, I live on the GC as its relatively cheaper and close to the beaches (although the sunny coast is not that far away). 85k is a good wage and having a lot of cash from a house sale will obviously help. If you didnt have the 200k I would say dont do it. Its not going to go that far in Brisbane as soon as you take out your housing costs but it depends on your lifestyle and expectations. You should not want to come over here and live like a hermit. People do live on 85k in the burbs and are over the moon. But I used to earn more than 50k in the UK and 85k over here will not feel like 50k GBP (or 62k GBP) over here. 50k is a good UK wage, if I was going to say an equivalent over here, I would be pushing for 120-130k. In terms of everything else, I love Australia, about to spend my 40th birthday here on a houseboat for the weekend adrift of a desert island. The weather is awesome, you can do lots more as a family, it gets dark early which is a shame, but I will not be going back.
  22. Hi Sol 2 sides to it, driving in and parking is extortionate, daily early bird specials can be found for about 25 a day, if not you can pay 65 eeek. Petrol on top. The train is the cheapest option, peak hours from Coomera to Brissy is 8.87 each way with a Go card, more expensive if you havent got one. I takes me 6 minutes to drive to the station and 6 minute walk to work so if I leave the house at 625, I am sat at my desk my 730 which isnt too bad. The train is packed all of the time though and some people bring their own chairs on to sit on as there are not spaces from Coomera. All in all though, I prefer to live on the coast and commute than the other way around. Cheers Sean
  23. I agree with Freebo, we live in Coomera Waters (GC) and I communte to Brissy everyday on the train. I can get 3 figures an hour here and half that on the Coast (unless as Freebo said you work for GCCC). Problem with Brisbane at the moment as well is that there are hundreds of people applying for the same jobs due to the government shake up so the previously best employer (government) for admin roles, etc are not employing so the market is saturated. I know you are not proud but just to get some money in, look in shop windows for work until you can find something better. Brisbane is a very small place and most jobs go on referrals before anyone actually sees them. Once you are in and can perform or at least do a decent job its normally plain sailing after that. This may sound off but look on Gumtree, they advertise for all sorts of work, albeit casual, its still money. Sorry I cant help any more, but good luck and dont give up easily. Sean
