update; 3 years in oz so far.......

Hi all, just a quick update from some boomerang poms that are going good 2nd time round. so after our 1st attempt in 2008 which only lasted 6 months, this time we have lasted just over 3 years and loving it!! dont get me wrong our family has had its share of ups and downs but right now life is good my wife and i are working, we have purchased our own home, our eldest is on on her "p's", passed her HSC, has part time work whilst studying at TAFE, and has found herself an aussie boyfriend. Our youngest has got her "L's" and also part time work. 1 set of parents are applying for permanent parents visa's and yesterday all 4 of us applied for our citizenship! the very sincere best of luck to all applying to migrate, and for those who have we hope life down under is treating you well. all the best.

    High schools in maitland area?

yes we have met fellow brits, a couple from durham who live near morpeth, a couple from manchester who live in cameron park. all nice people and great friends. meets get organised on here occasionally and i think facebook has a local group too. we have been here since july 2010 (our 2nd attempt see boomerang poms post / thread on this site) any questions you have, we'll try our best to answer to help you out with settling into NSW.

    High schools in maitland area?

yes we did. we left because we was renting and have now bought our house. we are down near greenhills a short walk from the hogs breath cafe. we was at hero way for around 18 months and both houses either side of us were not built when we moved in. hero way has lovely views. bill and steph across the road in the double storey are lovely people. hope you had nice neighbours move in?

    moving to Newcastle, NSW....HELP

well said aussie abroad. we live in maitland 1/2 hr drive inland (west) of newy. so 30 mins to the 2 above mentioned shopping centres and 30mins in the other direction to the hunter valley gardens and vineyards. it also places us at the top of the main freeway to take down to sydney (approx 2 hrs) and close to the new england highway which takes you up to coofs harbours and eventually queensland and surfers paradise (approx 8-9 hrs drive and home of the themeparks) ive drove quad bikes over stockton beach dunes (by an organised company) great fun. the resturants ive visited have been fair priced and clean. the irish pubs are lively (and sell beer in pints) the beaches are breath taking. spent australia day 2 years ago at nobbys beach in newy amazing day. now i dont wish to speak out of turn but its down to personal choice where to live, if it was me i would be looking to have my home at least 15 - 20 mins out of newcastle. im sure others will post some of the better suburbs. wherever you end up, we wish you all the very best

another boomerang / ping pong family

hi, thanks for the post / question. it was a mix of 2 main things, 1) we returned to our home town and it had gone downhill big time, crime & violence, intolerance, rudeness in shopping centres, over paced etc etc 2) we both became very guilty of reading peoples stories on website forums like this one, highlighting peoples struggles and heartache trying to obtain visa's that we already had and took us 2 years to gain. we thought how can we sit in the UK as a family with 2 young girls and all the time holding potential golden tickets in our passports. We missed the UK after our 1st 5 months in oz, and returned expecting to return to only the good things, our minds and logic overclouded by home sickness and sentimental memories. all 4 of our lives (in my opinion) are now so greatly improved as is our standard of living. we are making some great friends both aussie's and poms alike. you still have to work at it and make an effort. i'm enjoying the challenge.

HI All, well its us lot again with a little update....... still in oz and loving it! it will be 2 years july 2012, both tracey and i have full times jobs just minutes from where we have bought our new home. both our girls are doing great with our eldest passing her driving test, going tafe and working saturdays. traceys parents came out and stayed for a month over xmas. now in saying all the good stuff its not without the usual family ups and downs but no regrets at giving oz a second chance so far.
