  1. although I live in Perth my sis in law lives in Williamstown, Melbourne. It's 30 mins to the city by train and is a really quaint area. Lots of houses with cottage style gardens which you don't see much of in OZ and its on a inlet close to where the Yarra River meets the Ocean. We love to visit
  2. I came on a subclass 820 and had to wait for 2 years after PR although I am told this has changed to four. It would be worth contacting DIMIA for clarification
  3. What a complete farce. And I thought politics in the UK were bad
  4. i entered Australia on a subclass 820. After being granted temporary residency for 2 years, which allowed me to work, we then submitted our application for permanent residency, which was not too dissimilar from the original application. After the interview and the testing it was confirmed within writing within a matter of weeks. Total process from original application to granting of PR was around two and a half years. Good luck with your application
  5. That's why Foxtel make so much money from cleverly positioning their packages so you can't have UKTV and Lifestyle together. I never watch channel seven, Nine or Ten simply because of the ad breaks. I usually series link whatever I want to watch and play it back at a time that suits me
  6. So sorry to hear about your plight. My brother in law works in Melbourne on a 457 and has just been made redundant. It's means both him and his wife have to leave within 28 days. From the 1st July this 28 day ruling stretches to 3 months. My sis in law's company have offered her a 457 but it seems it won't go through in time before they have to leave. If your husbands company hang on until after 1st July I believe you won't have to leave for 3 months which means that you may be able to qualify for a bridging visa until your PR application comes through. It would be worth your while to visit your local DIMIA office........ good luck
  7. The more people that complain to the ACCC about misleading trading practises the better. Coles spent a lot of money installing bakeries in their supermarkets, just to end up part baking them!!!! They recently had for sale a product bought in for Mothers Day and advertised it at half price. Now $15 usually $30. They've never stocked this product since Christmas and then it was $15. Yet again, arrogance with the major supermarkets is rife. Bring on some decent competition
  8. Harvey's Bristol Cream used to be available in WA but sadly no more
  9. Great post and welcome to Perth Lozza. Looking forward to regular updates
  10. Sorry no, but welcome back to PIO
  11. Trust me, the chicken salt thingy is definetley not a pommie thing. It's totally alien to all Brits when they first arrive
  12. Yeah bring on the sprouts. Love em
  13. My son has had Coeliac Disease since birth, now 29. We don't have a problem when he comes to visit from the Uk. The supermarkets here are much better than they used to be, with many having a special section contains gluten free products. Restaurants and cafes also state on their menus GF dishes but as a precaution we always check first..... And if the wait staff are aware then it's usually a pretty good bet.
  14. We built a house in Southern River 3 years ago which is surrounded by bush and parkland. We love the peace and tranquility. Would love to live near the beach but in reality most people don't use it. We are in a street of 13 houses and have around 15 kids that live here, most of them under 9. We love the sounds of the kids playing outside which most of them do everyday, although we may feel different in a few years time when they've all got cars and honing up and down the street lol. Im not sure what 'living the dream' is all about. I think that we all should embrace what we have here and never take anything for granted. Kings Park is our favourite place and we visit at least once a fortnight and either have breakfast or lunch, then take a walk in the beauty of the surroundings
  15. Welcome to PIO Scozzy
  16. I think it's to do with the country your card is registered in. I was once told by Emirates that it was a way of combating terrorism!!! I never understood that one
  17. Hi Chloe, you are not alone.....far from it. I set up my shop because i couldn't find all the things i missed from 'home'. Because of the dominance of the major 2 supermarkets small, local companies that produce fresh and exciting foods cannot get a foothold because they are priced out of the market and especially as supermarkets move more to own label products. When we question our customers as to what they are looking forward to when they visit the UK, practically everyone has either M&S, Tesco or Waitrose top of their list............... and a bacon butty! I, like you, hate shopping in supermarkets here so i tend to spend my time in a few fresh food type deli's over here in Perth. With regard to clothes both Marks & Spencer and Next now deliver to Australia. Good Luck
