  1. As ive posted already, we have received our visa (huray!) I was wondering if anyone has compiled a check list of things to be done, when and where etc... We plan to move in August so we have 2 1/2 months to get things sorted. Has anyone seen such a check list??? Tony and Cheryl
  2. Hi We will be moving over soon, to secret harbour area, Myself 40 Mrs (?) Kids (2 & 6). We are looking to meet up with people to socialise with. Its a long way from home to be lonely even with interweb skype and facetwitter. Will let you know when we land, prob August time.
  3. Thanks for all replies! I'm a Licensed Aircraft Engineer, one of those professions that no-one really knows about but exist in every airport no matter how big or small. We are heading to Secret Harbour, i know its full of brits but, i have family there so makes sense to have people i know close by to help with kids. My wife, cheryl, is a veterinary nurse so hopefully she could get work easily enough. The company had there approval to nominate about 2 weeks before i got my visa so i guess it all took 4 weeks altogether. My Wife would like to know if there are any Ex Pat groups in the Secret Harbour area to help us socialise, settle down, etc. I hear there are a lot of FIFO in the area so i guess there are would be a few women at loose ends to start a group up if one doesn't already exist. Can someone tell me what bank owns the cash point in S.H please? I have to open an account so i might as well use that one as i hear the Oz's like to charge for using other banks ATM's. Right i will leave it at that for now. Don't want to bore you with questions! Thanks Again! Tony Cheryl and Jess and Kate
  4. we are just about to move over to perth would be good to hear about the rogue company! Please someone PM the details. Regards Tony
  5. My 457 has just been accepted after only 2 weeks. No medicals, no skills assesment. Is the company sorting your 457 or are you doing it yourself?
  6. 457 arrived this morning! Only 2 weeks after submitting! Excited! Any advice on anything and everything would be gratefully received! Tony and Cheryl and the Girls:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:
  7. Hi all Just back from our short stay inSecret Harbour, WA. We flew with Malaysian Airlines Heathrow-Kuala Lumpar-Perth, 2 adults a 5 year old and a 21 month old, 2600 quid(return). Good flights, slight delay going out ( think someone was trying to kidnap a kid or something, exciting!) but food nice kids ok despite ear infection and a vomitting bug. I can laugh now but close to tears at times! Secret Harbour is nice, loved the beach, not commercialised, just a beach, sea, perfect for me. Shops are good, everything you need close at hand. Stayed with relatives, but found their kids didnt venture out much. Is this a s ign of the times with Internet, xbox, facebook etc.. or is that strange? Just didnt think they were living the Ozzy dream, with the great outdoors thing you hear about. Perhaps i should take off the rose tinted spectacles... Looked around a few houses, very nice inside but most are limited on garden space. Prices are high compared to UK but we were expecting that. We are definatley taking the plunge and coming over, my job is sorted, just got to get visa finished off and then hopefully will be out by August/September this year. Cant wait. Tony Cheryl and the kids
  8. I studied at school to be an Architect, passed all my exams required to do the A levels (ooohh remember them!) so was happy. Unfortunatley i went to pics to watch "Top Gun", fell in love with Kelly McCguiness and Meg Ryan and wanted to be a pilot! Unfortunatley my eyes were rubbish so i joined the RAF as an Engineer. I went round the world, fought in 2 conflicts and learned the basics of what i do now! I'm a Licensed Aircraft Engineer and i'm coming to OZ to do it in the sunshine instead of rainy old Britain! No matter what you want to do, theres always something that will change your path, sometimes for the better sometimes worse. My wife is sooo much better looking than Mrs McCguiness so i'm laughing! Up yours Mr Cruise! Tony
  9. We are coming over for our hols and recce next week and wondered if there was anything exciting happening while we are there. We are 2 adults with a 5 year old and a 20month old Regards Tony and Cheryl
  10. Hi, can we put a fridge/freezer in a container or are there some rules on shipping them over there because of the chemicals/gases in them?? We are just trying to find out what to leave in our house in UK when we rent it out. Hopefully when we come over NEXT WEEK on our hols, we can price up all the domestic items to see whether its worth the hastle transporting them. Thanks Tony
  11. Hi guys and gals My 457 visa is nearly ready to lodge ( just got to reduce the size of my marriage certificate copy??!!) and 2 weeks away from vacation in Perth. Can someone confirm if i am correct in thinking i am entitled to diddly squat in relation to Family care from the state? ie child allowance, rent allowance etc etc... I presume it all comes to light after i get PR? Please advise Tony and Cheryl
  12. Think its 13 hours to KL then 5 to perth. Originally booked a nightflight but that is now cancelled by the airline as they have the A380 doing a day flight! Joy. Can't imagine films doing it for the 18month old for 13 hours!
  13. The 5 year old should be able to look after herself but the 18month old is a different thing! Any suggestions? Not Phenergen either! ( im an engineer not a doctor excuse spelling!) Tony
  14. I am in process of applying for 457 visa and it is a pre-requisite that you have insurance in place before they will issue a visa. I think the rules have changed in July 2012. I have sorted cover with Bupa now. Pay one month up front and then they will issue a letter for the visa application and then i go to a BUPA outlet and sign up once i have moved to OZ. All those wishing to get temporary insurance must make sure that the DIAC are happy with the level of cover it provides and ensure the insurer issues a letter to state the level of cover or you don't get your visa! Thats the way it is explained to me. If it is different or not necesary then i wil cancel insurance on arrival and register with medicare. One problem solved, on to the next in the maze that is coming to OZ! Tony
  15. But i need to have cover to progress my visa application. Will the insurance off "travelsupermarket.com" be up to the requirements of the 457 application? The oz government want proof you are covered before they issue the visa. Has anyone else done it this way? Can i have names of companies and can you let me konw how you got insurers to confirm they comply with oz requirments? Thanks Everyone for replies so far...!
