1.

Hi Jodi, yeah thats right of you can secure SS then your visa then Lees good to go for applying for jobs. I agree about looking at another state for definate. They all offer something different. I have relatives in perth who love it, when we applied we applied to Tas and WA but WA had allocated all its spaces, luckily TAS accepted our application and we received PR. But we cant get work for love nor money in any line for youth or community or housing work anywhere in TAS so we are going to brisbane where we have friends, should get work easier there. weve spoke with our officer in TAs and theyre fine. But Lee shouldnt have a prob with work in WA :-))

2.

Hi Jodi, hope we can help somehow! Ok ill tell you all we know and be honest about it, no point giving you misguided hope. Its very hard to get work as a youth worker. Lee is doing the right thing getting his degree for a start. Now we applied for our visa 18mths ago but weve been assessed for 3 years now so it has changed and unfortunately im not upto date with how lee would be assessed, sorry. What i do know is you guys will no doubt have to go down the state sponsored route, when we applied there was only two states interested in youth work, not sure what its like now. You will be beyond lucky to gain work in oz from here, infact its virtually impossible. you will need your visa first. we did have a about 3 interviews tho and a few got back to us about our application but every time it came down to not bein in the country. dependent on where you guys plan to go will depend on which employers id advise you to contact, any other questions fire away kelly x

3. when we went out in jan to validat we stayed at North Brisbane Homestay up in Narangba, with Ken and Susie Orr. It was wonderful accomodation will sleep 2 adults and 2 kids. just google them and ul find them. you have your annexe at the he side of the house. Large living/dining room seperate bedroom with ensuite and seperate large kitchen, its great for getting started, were lucky when we go back to be staying with friends otherwise we would be going back to ken and susies. if you contact them let them know kelly and jamie frm edinburgh put you in touch x

11. hi all, friends of ours are looking into migrating, hes a community worker as is just starting to look into it all. im trying to help him and his partner as much as i can, can he include his partner without being married? is it just the same as any other application where by you have to prove your partnership if you arent married?? they have been together 8 yrs, i know this may sound stupid but i was making sure australai recognises same sex partnerships without marriage Thanks
12. Hello and welcome to PIO! we will also be arriving in NL end of the year but we already know it very well having visited and stayed twice, just back in jan. We have lots of friends there and you will find it fairly easy to make friends. Theres lots to do for the kids, the local pool is excellent, theres lots of local sporting clubs also the mini athletics club. The schools in the area are all excellent, state schools are strictly on catchment area, the two in NL are North Lakes State College and Bounty Boulevard we have frinds who have kids at both and like both schools, Also just over the main road is Mango Hill and they have just this year opened a new primary school, i should add NLSC is the only high school in the estate unless you choose to send them private, we have a friend whose daughter has just started Grace Lutheran. Theres plenty of local clubs and get togethers happening, the shopping centre is a great place as lots of mums take kids there as they have diff activities on to keep them busy. Theres also the soft play/skate arena which is good for the kids and meeting mums! The area is big without a doubt it can take 15min to drive top to bottom without traffic, some people love it some hate it, we love it. The further up the state the newer it is, the smaller the plots and more expensive it seems to get! the shopping centre has everything you need, and within 20mins your on the peninsula and at the beach, anything else pls just ask i,ll try to answer for you! Kelly
13. well we spoke to the council and they confirmed what we expected they would only be using our house for short term homeless accomodation, so most people would be in for 6mth at a time but theres not guarantee that there will be no gap between tennants, also my hubby works with homeless council policy and knows who is put into homeless accomodation, and im afraid its not the clientele i would be happy with, also the council regard them selves as a letting agent when it comes to using private rentals they do not carry out any maintenance at all which includes the tennant wrecking the house! so were seeing the couple interested in the house tonite and we,ll see what happens!
14. in short no, as you point out its a moral obligation, most people do go to their nominated stae but some for certain reasons dont, but it wont cause you any issues.
15. melbourne for sure, sounds like you both would be well suited to the city! it will ahve everything u need, great job opps and more importantly snowboarding within driving distance! goodluck
16. the thing with the council is they only use it for homeless accomodation, so this person would be put in on a 6mth tenancy then have the option to continue for another 6 month, but theres a good chance they may be offered council housing then but no guarantee? whereas the chap i know is moving in with his GF and looking to put down roots, they both work fulltime and i know him pretty well? so do we take the council option because it pays more money or do we just cover what we need and go with the more trusted route?? im at present swaying toward the person i know atleast id have nop hassle with him, he knows the score and would stay in contact via email
17. hi everyone, so after nearly a year on the market and droppin the house to the lowest we can financially go weve not had one single viewer, not even a time waster, weve had it up for rent and had alot of interest but have been let down by 3 diff people and the rest were all just wasters. then today out the blue a young guy i used to work with whose lookin to move in with his girlfriend has contacted me about possibly renting it as a few of their friends live near, and an hour later out local council have phoned and asked if wed be interested in renting to them they have a homeless single mother with 3 children!!! like buses, but knowing our luck neither will work out!!! im just very apprehensive about rentin but i know its our option now, so out of the two which would you take? the guy who i know but would have to lower the rent for him to afford or the council tennant who will give us full whack but could be a potential sticky wicket????
18. well malaysian airlines are coming in the cheapest by £100 then its singapore then C.P then the rest are just plain ridiculous. Ive read C.P arent great for tall people and my hubby is 6'6, singapore were fine when we flew in jan. i just really love the look of hong kong for a days visit! dont really fancy kuala lumpar?
19. we thought that, we,ll just phone them see what they say can only ask! last time they were excellent, thanks again
20. we,ll be going back for good later this year, we like alot of the areas in the northern side, warner, cashmere is lovely close to the city but still feels rural, also thers a lovely small estate being built in narangba called stone ridge which is really nice, also one at dakabin called essencia. We would like new but will most likely buy new from the builder as opposed to the hassle of buying land then waiting on the actual build, just because its our preference, also we couldnt afford rent and mortage together!
21. ok were just back from the northern suburbs and theres not much i dont know about new builds in the area, unfortunately for my hubby lol!! theres several new land estates depends how close to the city you want to be and also how much you want to pay for the "name" of the estate you live in. We learnt very quickly you need to get in early on releases of land to secure any dcent size of land as the longer the build goes on the smaller the plots get. If you are wanting the typical 4 bed 2 bath open plan single storey AND you want a decent size garden you will need land no smaller than 550sqm. some estates are selling land at 300sqm!!! if you build a double storey you could possibly take a slightly smaller plot. Theres definate room for negotiation with the builders if your in the position to buy and mortgage is good to go. As for builders theres loads, and a good ten very well known ones whom you,l find on every land estate. alot of people like metricon who dont get me wrong their show homes are absolutely stunning but theyre also one of the dearest builders, and our friends built with metricon a big double storey house and ive seen the show home and trust me theirs is not like it unless you afford all the bells and whistles so becareful not to be wowed! most builders are very helpful but generally only once you have land purchased as they cant do anything until youve got land unless you specifically buy a package from them whereby they have purchased x amount of plots ina new estate and have already started building a designed house on it, often you get these at great prices. its very exciting to go looking and designing just try and be realistic when you do it, goodluck! if you want any info on the estates give me a shout!
22. evening all, so were looking at bookin our one way tickets soon and ive had a look at prices and its going to be either singapore or cathay pacific. i cant get over how expensive emirates are now, we have flew with both emirates and singapore and when checking flights tonite emirates are £1000 more than singapore!! as for etihad they are even worse! altho malaysian air seems very cheap? we would like to take the opportunity to stop over maybe just for a day so i was wondering if anyone can recommend singapore or hongkong?? also when booking our flights how do we add in a stop over? should we call the respective airlines and see if they can do it for us?? i really fancy hong kong but we loved flying with singapore?? many thanks Kelly
23. Hi all, im aware singapore airlines will give us double baggage when we emigrate but as we have already validated will we get it with our one way flight when we go? Thanks
