I guess it will vary from state to state and also from week to week. Petrol varies daily. Tim isn't available for a couple of weeks.

Not sure what area your thinking of but if your talking sydney then your a bit off with the rent, our 2 bed modest bungalow with garage and garden in northern beaches is $495 pw and thats a bargain. Mobile phone you can spend $29 vodaphone cap and get $150 worth of calls/texts (plenty). satt tv -wouldnt bother..its all gash.
..elect -$100 per quarter, NO council tax if your renting, car insurance fully comp on a 3 door 1.8 hatchback with 65%no claims $55 per month, private health/dentist insurance $73 per month, all the others are about right id say. reckon youd need to be bringing home min $5000 -6000 per month to live in Sydney as a family of 4.

Hi Mr Imp,

After having a chat with our rental agent she gave us the following information:
  1. In Victoria you don't pay council rates if you are renting.
  2. Water - If the property is a unit with several on the block you won't always be responsible for paying the water rates if it is a rental property. It all depends on whether the owner had individual water meters put in. If they didn't, you are not necessarily going to be charged water rates. We have an individual water meter so we copped the charges!
We have a 3 bed unit, beach side in Mornington and pay $320 a month rent.
