I am fairly new to the site also. Having looked at the points system for permanent migration I wonder who would meet 65 points. I know next year when I graduate with my degree I don't meet the 65 and my hubby who is younger and has over 10 years experience in his trade does not have enough. I will be looking at the 457 route and will be applying for jobs with Queensland health next year. If anyone has done this already and is working in health care I would love to hear from you or others who are trying the same route.

I do all my shoping in Swindon.

Me too lol

I have been looking into schools but when you think of all the schools in the many suitable areas the mind boggles, I just dont think we will know which is best untill your there so i'm fine sending them to one that has a good review and looks nice when we get there. We are looking into springfield area because its close to work placement i have( SW of the CBD ) Good reviews and cheaper than most but it is hour an a half from the beach but when were living there we'll see how it works out

I think when you have a 457 choice my not be luxury so we have to go with the best options that available. At the end of the day your are in Oz with a foot in the door. I wish I was in that position. I work in a school andkids will got on any where if they want to, try not to worry all will be ok.

I too cannot apply for 175 pr visa (age = too few points), but I am hoping for ENS 121 rather than 457, have any of you considered this route for a visa? I am going to a DIAC event in London to meet with prospective employers next week with a view to pr sponsorship.

Not heard of this route but I will look into it. What is the age limit? I am 42 this year so time is against me.

i am planing to go on 457 just for the simple reason that it is cheaper and i was a little worried how that will work but if it has worked for people with kids i get i'll be all good too. moved to UK at 16 with no job, no degree with £50 in my pocket now more than 10yrs later with over £5000 saving, a profession and hopeful a job and on 457 moving to Oz,i should be ok :-)

Louise you should get the age points (15 points for you) for 175/176 etc. At 46 I get 0 points, so even if OH skills assessed, top IELTS scores and state sponsorship I would only get 60-65.

The ENS option is not subject to the points system which is why I am considering it. :)

Hi everyone,

My husband has secured a job in Sydney and the company says they will sponsor our visa application which we are just about to kick off. We are looking for permanent residency so is the best way to get this to secure PR sponsorship by my husbands' new employer? Or should we check that they would be willing to sponsor our PR before? All advice welcome, thank you.

Congratulations on your husbands job offer what is he going to be doing. My Hubby is hoping to find a job just looking into it now. So hope to be lucky as huband has specialist skill that rare in OZ in demand (computer software) but it is a such an up and down ride one day I think it will all be fine then the next it looks rubbish. When do you go, and are you all going together? Or is OH having to go first? Good luck

Hi Floball67,

My husband is also a computer software specialist- Microsoft AX Dynamics. His new employer wants him to start work in the beginning of May; just hope we pass our medicals, I am a diabetic on insulin and son 18 has a visual impairement, luckily daughter 16 is in perfect health. We plan to follow OH the end of June so I can tie up all loose ends and kids can finish studies GCSE's and A levels. We are just starting the visa application with all our fingers/ toes crossed.

Has your husband sent his CV to any recruitment specialists, thats how OH heard about and applied for his new job; I hope your hubby can get his dream job!! Are you looking to move anywhere in particular? Initially we never gave Sydney any thought as we preferred Adelaide or Brisbane, but perhaps it was meant to be that we moved to Sydney.

Nice to hear from you, and thanks for your well wishes, speak again soon.

Hi once in a blue moon. We are hoping to move to sydney too. Yes my huband has started to send his CV off, I am so impatient keep thinking it will never happen. Only been trying for less than a week. how long did it take your husband to get his job. And which agency in sydney we are now registered with most i think. The new employer should be gaining a 457 for your hubsband which is a temporary 2 year visa, this is the only visa an employer can get I think. I know if the employer has sponsership agreement already set up with the government your visa will come quickly some have come in days. And some say they didn't need police checks or medicals. Hope that helps. Let me know how you go and would be interested to hear

Hi, my OH is insulin dependent and no probs at all with 457 (which was a 4 year visa) My employer then sponsored us for an ENS 856 permanent visa. OH had to go through a few extra specialists tests to show his diabetes was under control but it seemed fairly run of the mill stuff.

We did the 457 online and it was very quick, only the kids had full Medicals because they would be going in to school but we all had to have chest X-rays.

Hope this helps, good luck :)

Hello Bamboozled,

Thanks for your reply, it's good to know my diabetes shouldn't cause a problem. My control is good and I don't have any other problems that diabetics can have. Who did you take out your health insurance with, and does your OH see a diabetic specialist to make sure he/she stays in good health? Did your employer sponsor your permanent visa early on or did they sponsor your PR near the end of your 457 visa? How long have you been in Oz and has it lived up to your expectations?

Speak soon, best wishes

Hi Floball67,

If we do get to Sydney (I'm not counting my chickens!!) and you do too, perhaps we could meet up? My husband didn't send his CV to any agencies in Sydney but sent it to an international recruiter called Nigel Franks International, another recruiter is Hays. What is your husbands' specialism? Have a look on the web. Hope this help you.
