Guest simon g Posted February 17, 2012 Share Posted February 17, 2012 hello ! am new here and looking for abit of help... was wondering if anyone had a rough idea what the oz comparison and wage would be for an NHS ward manager (mid incriment band 7)?... i appreciate its probably abit variable from state to state but any info would be greatly recieved at this early stage! also wondered if theres any great demand for NHS HCA's ( health care assistants).. again not sure what the Oz equivalent is. we are only in the very early stages of gettn the lay of the land so any help would be greatly appreciated. regards simon , leicester Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

As mentioned very early days for us at the mo so thought i'd do abit of nosying about online to see if it's really worth looking into more seriously. I was a band 7 in the UK, came here as a level 1.9 for 4 months on the wards just to get my foot in the door, working in the community a few months later, and then got an acting level 3 initially in ED (psych liaison) then moved to an acting level 3 in the community, and applied for the permanent post. Again invaluable info at this early stage! . i may very well take you up on that offer of further info via PM if your ok with that lol... although you may infact be contacted by my wife who is the band 7 in question and who will probably make far more sense about these things than me.. as for me, i'm looking into what i could best retrain in to make myself also as employable as possible should we make the move. ali Posted February 17, 2012 Share Posted February 17, 2012 1.9 is a registered nurse with 9 years or more experience (so yes probably a band 5) Leve 2 is a Clinical Nurse (CN), these would be band 6 and take charge of co-ordinating the shifts (the community nurses in MH are level 2's) The increments are 2.1 - 2.4, depends on your expereince and is possible to go right to 2.4 Tell your wife to drop me a pm anytime - happy to help Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Gill x Congratulations on the promotion Gill, I think you're right I think the higher SRN positions are easier to get once your here as generally (but not always) they have quite a few applicants by nature of the grade. When I came, they weren't taking overseas applicants directly into CN positions (although they do now), which is why I came as a 1.9, but to be honest, this tured out to be great, meant I found my feet, learned the processes ... without any real pressure on me. Promotional positions ... by nature of being promotional are generally quite competative when they come around, there's also the added thing of availability ... eg. is 2 candidates are equally matched and one is available and one hasn't yet got their visa.
