We applied in April 2011, Case officer in Dec 2011. Our police clearance took a while (UK was quick, FBI take ages).

All systems go, we are probably going to give Perth a go (the only australian city we have not been to).

Good luck to eveyone else waiting on thier visas.

Thanks - it is quicker than we thought it would be initially but if you go onto the website you can see the processing times are coming down - not sure if this will change when the new changes come in.

It was granted on my accounting qualifications, OH is in HR. We tried 176 from Victoria and got rejected, even though they say they would sponsor accountants they wouldnt sponsor me, CA with big 4 training but they wanted specific experiance and they dont really say what they want and only go by what is on your CV.

176 is much quicker IF you get the sponsorship

Congratulations!!!!!!

are you from the USA? How long did the FBI checks take?

Hi

No, from the UK but worked in the US for longer than a yr, so needed the USA clearance. It took 8 weeks, but you need to submit fingerprints and had to wait for nearly 2 weeks for an appointment at Scotlan Yard.

Hope that helps

Hi Jamjar,

Congratulations for the grant of VISA.

Could you please give more inputs on the VIC SS rejections of yours. Infact, i am in the same situation of yours. I am a CA from India and having 4.5 years post-qualification experience with Big4 (audit and assurance services). I am planning to apply for VIC SS in couple of days, but I am bit worried about preparation of my CV. It’s known that VIC is famous for rejections and it scrutinizes the case only based on the CV that is submitted along with application. I was just wondering, if I can be benefited with your experience and other inputs for preparing my CV. My occupation is External Auditors. Could you please share your occupation and field of experience attained after the qualification?

For me this SS is very crucial as i need 5 points to lodge my application.

Thanks in advance

Hi

I am South African CA (also have my US CPA), working in London as a Financial Controller of a New York Listed Company. Did my training in SA with big 4 and transfered with them to US for 2 yrs. In London 10 yrs PQE, I have worked for one of the largest oil and gas companies (2 years) Listed company, Manufacturing company, also Listed for 2 yrs and 6 yrs with a sofware company that specialised in software for banks - Listed on the NYSE. So I really dont know who they want to sponsor but its not me.

Not sure if that will help you or not but good luck

Cheers

Yes it does help, thanks! I already submitted my fingerprints 2 times ( once for visa, once for citizenship) so I hope they won`t take that long ( wishful thinking I know)

Hi SatyamS,

I am an accountant as well and I've been positively assessed by ICAA for three degrees ( Accountant General, Management Accountant and Finance Manager). I have had tried WA and Vic for SS but with no luck though I have almost nine years experience. I firmly believe they go by the CV though in their rejection letter they said reason was I don't have any local state experience as we live in QLD. Now I am trying QLD with fingers crossed.

I would say its worth trying your luck so you won't regret later for not trying.

Hi Nishi

OMG!!! That is crazy - I thought it was a bit harsh on me, but how they rejected you I have no idea. They just dont want to sponsor accountants - end off.

Good luck

Hi Jamjar,

Even I was baffled at being rejected. But I have seen few here on this forum getting positive replies from govt. so I'm again being hopeful. :)

Hi Nishi,

Now i am done withe IELTS and all set to apply for VIC SS. I dont want my case to be refused by VIC just because of CV thing. I have 4 years post qualification experience from BIG4 (in Audit). Could you please give some suggestions on dos and donts while applying for VIC SS.

Can you please tell which occupation you have applied for? Mine is External Auditor.

Now i got my own fears/doubts if External Auditor is generally sponsored by VIC (ofcourse its there in the list of occupations, checked form their website)

Thanks in advance

Hi Satyam,

I had applied as an Accountant (General), but I believe applicant who are actually offshore have more chances of getting SS. They rejected my application saying I live in QLD and residents of other state must have job offer letter in Victoria before applying. But as I said there is no such requirement for applicant offshore. So good luck and I'm sure you would be alright. :)
