Heathfamily
Probably been asked many times  How clean do tools such as spanners, socket sets, hammers etc need to be? Do they need to be like new, and what about rust spots? Also power tools, like drill, saw, sander? These are all personal tools not used for work/job. Any advice gratefully received. Thanks. wishfulthinking
The tools don't have to be immaculate, just make sure the saw and sander are free from particles, should be fine with that. Its things like, if yr taking over a lawnmover for instance, all the grass and soil have to be removed.
JoandJon
Hubby wiped over his hand tools well, and made sure they were as clean as possible. But he didn't jeyes them or anything - he was worried about rust! With the bigger stuff he cleaned them, and then I wiped them over with jeyes fluid later on (not anything that might rust). He also used his air-compressor to blow particles out of crevices etc. Our movers have just left, they didn't make any comments about tools not being clean enough... Here's hoping it's okay getting through customs!
Phil & Vikki
Hi there, When we were packing out things, we wondered this too. We started off with a wet wipe trying to clean all the things off. Until after a bit we just said sod it, if we have to pay for steam cleaning when they arrive in Australia, we will pay for it. All the tools got put in a few boxes and everything was OK, they were not even checked. We also had old car parts with 30 years of oil, rust and dirt on and they never got checked. We may of just been luck, but what seemed to happen was they opened things like shoes and golf clubs. They were all nice and clean and smelling fresh, so they must of said that based on them the rest of the boxes were OK. If they were dirty, they may of wanted to look in more boxes. JoandJon
After cleaning if you wipe them over with WD40 or some tool-oil it will help keep them in good condition too..
