Guest Martin R
Be aware that the Import duty will be based on the Value fo the Car as it enters Australia, NOT the value in UK. Some of the advice and Pamphlets is misleading/wrong. Until the car is off loaded, and viewed by an Independent assessor, it's hard to say. Our Peugeot 206cc was valued in UK at 4,000 pounds. I completed the Import forms accordingly. I was expecting a duty payment fo about 500-600 dollars. When it was assessed in NSW, they valued it at equivalent to 9,000 pounds, and 1,000 dollars. In truth, the cars is really worth $18,000 so we're still quids in! if you look on eBay Australia Motors or carsales.com.au you can see what prices cars are achieving down here. Also, the car type/value may also bring ity up to the Luxury car bracket where duty is higher. Don't forget that you will also get hit with Bills for Mods (eg child restaints), Inspection, Registration (Rego, Green slip, Compulsory 3rd party insurance etc) and possibly steam cleaning. You'll almost ceratinly have to get the steam cleaning done in Aus, so don't waste money doing it in UK. Just wash and Vac the car. Martin

Iron Chef
Based on a $20K value, you'd be looking at around $3500 in duty and GST combined.
sleepywombat
Also look at www.redbook.com.au - this is used as an alternative to the Glass's guide by the motor trade. HTH Cx
