Guest NeilEB
Hi all, Now I've seen mentioned before that although you can't get LAFHA on a 176, there are other tax breaks you can get, and rebates for child care. Can anyone explain more - I have a tax calculator, but that doesn't include childcare obviously.
Jurls
Childcare Benefit and Rebate payments come from the Family Assistance Office. http://www.familyassist.gov.au/payments/ CCB is income based and aimed to help with childcare costs. CCR isn't income based, but both you and your partner would need to meet the work/study/training for 15 hours a week requirement. Basically you are refunded 50% of your out of pocket costs up to a maximum amount, which I can't remember offhand but it will be in the links. If you are on a permanent visa you may be entitled to Family Tax Benefit Part A and/or Part B. These are also calculated on income. ETA - You'd also need to check if there are any waiting periods or if you can access these payments immediately. I'm not sure if it's different for different visas etc.
Guest NeilEB
Thanks - does this count for day care or schooling as well? And I assume from that my wife would have to work as well?
Jurls
Thanks - does this count for day care or schooling as well? And I assume from that my wife would have to work as well? I'm not sure if it counts for schooling as well. Maybe someone else will know. Your wife would pretty much have to be working or studying for over 15 hours a week to qualify for CCR. I'm a SAHM and so we don't qualify, presumably as childcare isn't a necessity if I'm at home anyway
fish.01
Thanks - does this count for day care or schooling as well? And I assume from that my wife would have to work as well? It's for childcare so childcare centres or before/after school care. For FBT A and B your wife doesn't have to be working.

fish.01
Fbt a & b? Family Tax Benefit A and B. Family tax payments based on number of children. Both means (income) tested. One is worked out on your total family income, the other on just the lessor income of the two (or no income if one of you is not working). http://www.familyassist.gov.au/payments/
