Hey my little pommie possums.... can any one help us .....?????

Does any one know what kind of questions they ask you in the immigration interview? We know that from today (1st Oct '07) they will ask you at least 20 questions about Australia and their culture. Any help for us middle aged couple starting over would be sooooooo much appreciated!!!:jiggy:

Hi if you log on to the dept of immi web site you can order a booklet about the citizenship test. We're hoping the children will be able sit it for us!!!! Luckily we'll be able to apply for citizenship in another 15 months. I believe you have to sit the test before you can apply for citizenship.

One person fails Aussie citizenship test

Only one person has so far failed the new Australian citizenship test on its first day of operation, the federal government says.

More than 30 people were expected to sit the test on Monday in Queensland and Victoria, with most states observing a public holiday.

Prospective citizens must correctly answer 12 of 20 questions covering Australia's history, traditions, geography and government.

A spokeswoman for Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews said the feedback so far had been positive.

"So far everyone has come back saying it's a lot easier than they expected and they're all very happy," she told AAP.

"Everyone's passed except for one person who got a high percentage but failed on one of the values questions."

Final figures on the pass and fail rate were expected to be available on Monday night.

Although aspiring citizens can pass with a 60 per cent mark, there are three so-called "values questions" which must be answered correctly in order to acquire citizenship.

The test can be undertaken as many times as needed to pass.

The government has refused to make the test questions public.

The questions are supposed to be chosen from a pool of 200, but the government admitted many had not yet been finalised.

Mr Andrews' spokeswoman said it would be at least seven weeks before all 200 questions were ready.

"We're ahead of schedule for the questions. They need to be specifically developed to make sure that the questions are properly worded and clearly understandable," she said.
