Dear all,

Is there anybody out there willing and able to give a little guidance to someone slightly overwhelmed with the whole emmigration process. I'm currently serving as a police officer with Thames Valley Police and looking for a like for like move to either WA or SA.

Have done some homework already but there are a few questions still unanswered.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

All the best and thanks in advance

Hi Giles,Your post interested me because we were at friends last weekend and got talking to a standing in seargent ( if thats how you spell it -dont look rite to me ), anyway, this guy is an Aussie and as I said he is in stand in mode and he told us he earns $55,00.00 and he has to do a post office job to up his income!! I asked him about the pc"s that come from the UK and he said that they have to pay their own removals etc and after they have done their neccessary time most of them choose different careers to go to?????

This may be of no interest to you but its just the convesation I had at a party - we are in WA

Hi Giles,

now i am not saying that Sian is wrong she is not, but a lady who comes to where i work, well her grandson (i think) is moving to WA as a :policeman: and he has had everythink paid for him, and also i read in The Sun a couple of years ago that they were crying out for :policeman: from the UK only and were paying for them.. And in the paper they followed a :policeman: from London and he was working in Perth City, but he lived outside it, and he was comparing the jobs between the two countries.. Have you had a free chat with an agent? They might know something?

GOOD LUCK..

Hi Giles,

My Brother-in-Law went to work 2 years ago for the SA Police. The start to finish process took all of about 4 weeks, so it was pretty speedy way of getting there.

He is on $60,000.00 pa but is very unhappy and is leaving to start his own business.

He did CID work here in a specialist area and when he got to Oz they started him at the bottom on transport police, unfortunately he has never been able to use his specialist policing in Australia.

I'm not sure if they paid for his relocation package or not I cant remember.

There are other police that he transferred with and some of them are sticking the job out as are not to worried about just taking it easy, so I suppose it depends how dedicated you are to your current role and all your experience you have gained in the Uk as you may not neccessarily use this when you get to Australia. And I think he now feels a bit peeved as he lost his pension etc.. in the Uk, but I suppose that was the sacrafise he made at the time.

Good luck with your decision

Thanks for the reply Alex. the whole thought process on emmigrating is unbelievably daunting. I'm taking a holiday in Brisbane to see what life's like out there. Got a feeling I'm going to like it

Appreciate your note - thanks. I guess that the grass is not always greener in some aspects but the UK is changing so much at the moment, I really don't see myself wanting to be here in years to come. Thanks again, it's good to know there are others out there willing to offer a little help

Hi wilfzip, I am in Rockingham which is just south of Perth, I hope I didnt put you off, when I read my reply to you it sounded very negative - I didnt mean it to I was only passing on a converstion that I had had! We have been here since Dec 06 and we love it. We have just bought our first house in Oz and we have many new friends, the children have settled well too. It is still early days for us, but so far so good and we love our new life, hopefully the weather will start getting better soon as this is the only downside - didnt think it rained this much in Oz !!!!!!!!!!

Sian,

I wasn't told that it rained in Oz at all!!!!. Glad to hear that your kids have settled in well. That is the main concern for us as we have three between the ages of 1 and 6. The other is obviously the 'missing family' and friends issue. I hope we can get through this stage if we are lucky enough to move out.

Thanks for taking the time to reply
