Employer Sponsorship questions to ask??

Hi all,

Looks like employer sponsorship route is the best option for me after talking to agents. I have a few questions if anyone can help.

  • Do you say on cover letter that you are requiring sponsorship?
  • Should, (if you are lucky enough to get an interview) you ask about things like PR sponsorship in the future and LAFHA?

Thanks

John

Hello!

As mush as I might not be able to answer your questions, I thought you might like to have a look at this website: Sponsorship Australia

You have to pay a small amount for full membership (about £5) but it will be worth it for you as you will be able target employers looking to sponsor people.

Hope this helps you and best of luck!

I would personally wait until you have had further discussions if it gets that far.

also worth bearing in mind, If you limit your options to only companies offering LAFHA you might make things even harder for yourself. Just getting a sponsorship isnt easy.

PR sponsorship is too far away for most companies to think about, if you prove yourself a good employee, why would they not want to sponsor you for ENS after 2 years .

Hi John

We are in the same boat - looking for companies who will sponsor. Can u use a recruitment agent as they will do all the hard work for you! I have had 3 interviews with companies in both Sydney and Melbourne who have sorted things out for us. We are just waiting to sell our house then were on our way! I asked about LAFHA after I'd been offered the job as we were then negotiating package.

Hope all goes well - the employee sponsorship is making it much easier for us to move! Just need to sell this !!!

Hi James,

Congrats on getting job offers and hope the house sells soon!!!!

I have been in touch with a couple of general recruitment agencies but they didn't seem overly enthusiastic!!! Did you use specialist agencies or just general ones? Am desperate to get the ball rolling on this properly now that we have made a decision to go.

Hi John

Thanks mate! Yes I'm with Jivaro & Michael Page but they are recruitment agencies specific to my role - I'm a merchandise planner. We are the same about the move - the sooner the better for us! I must admit this does take the hassle out of applying for a visa, a couple of our friends are going through that now and it's very costly and time consuming. The agent has been really helpful - hope u find one who can do the same for you!

Hope all goes well - and if you know anyone who wants to buy a house in Liverpool let me know!

Cheers James, thanks for that. Unfortunately I don't know anyone looking to buy in Liverpool!!

How about renting, that's what we will be doing if we ever get to go. Would barely cover the mortgage now if we sold..

Im not an expert on this subject - but what I can say is i put my cv out there and got some interest - but when i said i was in the UK and wanted to move to Oz alot of them lost interest. The recruiters I spoke to said that they didnt like phone interviews, extra hassle with visa etc but if i was there and available for interview I would get more interest.

I guess alot of it depends on what you do

Yeah I think it depends on what job you do. Luckily mine is needed over there so companies are willing to pay but I feel your pain if thats not the case. The visa process looks so long and time conniving it must really be stressful and a pain! I keep saying to my oh that were lucky my job is in demand as i feel it's a very quick win for us!

Hope all goes ok - we will all get there eventually!!

Puckoon what is it you do? Have you tried other options?

There are people that manage to sort out sponsorship from overseas but it tends to be the exception not the rule. Unless you have exhausted all other visa strategies, I would not recommend pinning all your hopes on this one.

Hi Pumpkin,

Not pinning all my hopes on it, I just thought I'd have a look at what was out there.

I'm a hotel manager but unfortunately after working for the last number of years in hospitality rather then hotels i would be unlikely to pass Vetassess. Thats after consulting with 3 agents who all say the same thing.

So i'm just having a look and you never know I might strike gold!!!!!
