What a dilemma

Good news: I've been offered a job in Melbourne, which comes with a house for the first few months.

Bad news: They want me to start on 1st October and my house in the UK has not sold yet!!

Need the money from the house sale to finance our move so renting it out not an option.

What do I do?

Its not ideal - but could you not go on your own to begin with. The house might sell soon - October is 2 months away yet! and it might only be for a few weeks. Good opportunity to miss especially with the accommodation!

Agreeing - go by yourself at first (mind you does depend just how good the job offer is - if it's a 'you'd be gutted if you missed it' then go for it)

Thought's in my mind too as when we eventually go there's a chance Dan will have to go first as he'll have a course start date and I may have to stay behind to sell the white elephant!!

Good luck whatever you go with x

As the others have said (and many have done) you could come out alone whilst someone stays behind to sort the house sale ,alternatively could you not reduce the prica a couple of grand for a quick sale ,lets face it they always try and knock a few quid anyway.Like you say it is a bit of diliema ,and i hope you can sort it and everything comes good,,

Thanks for all the replies... I kind of think you are all right. We have dropped the price of the house so hopefully that will get it shifted. Someone mentioned that people don't buy at this time of the year - is this true and if so when do they start buying?

It's true summer's a deadzone for selling - with all the holidays and people just chilling out in the sun (haha!) rather than traipsing round houses. Not sure when it picks up but know Christmas is another deadzone and then it picks up in Jan with the 'new year, new life' factor kicking in

hi i used to work in an estate agents up until march this year.i think you will find that the market will pic up in sep, people are so desperate to get the deal done before xmas, they litraly start looking as soon as the kids go back to school.also have you tried asking your agent to do a quick speck in your local property paper.also daily mail outs to new people on their mailing list.sometimes you need to prompt your agent as they dont always do what you think they should be doing for you and if your not on their case then someone else will be priority and getting their house sold and not yours.dont refuse views from people who havent sold yet either as they could want your house and sell within the nxt wk.make sure you ask your agent for honest feedback from views ,so that you can adress any negs.

sorry to bable on zoe x

That's interesting.... I think I will keep the price as it is in the hope that over the next few weeks it will pick up, but then I am thinking of going to a different estate agent since my current one can not be described as "proactive". I guess by then I will have to drop the price fairly drastically to get it sold. Thanks for the info.

I have a feeling that is what will have to happen. The trouble is we have 3 kids under 6 so it would be slightly unfair to make Mrs Buck fly with them by herself (if I thought I would get away with it.....)! I guess I will have to come back to escort them over which is a real pain.

Have you chatted to a mortgage advisor about renting, because you could remortgage and release as much equity as poss.then leave it with a rental firm to look after the house and get someone in 2 pay your mortgage.plus side to this is that if you ever did come back your house would have probably increased in value.nice nest egg. tips on a thred below on getting your house sold, zoe cox x:spinny:

Had someone round to find out how much we could get for renting it out.... They said we could ask around £1100 pcm. Unfortunately our mortgage at the moment is slightly more than that, and I would imagine that re-mortgaging would make that figure increase. Would be nice to have it as a nest egg though!
