Phil & Vikki
We are coming over in the new year on our 138 sub-class visa and we were wondering if we will have to pay for medicre and school costs? We thought that the forum may be the best place to start out investigations into this.
Quoll
We are coming over in the new year on our 138 sub-class visa and we were wondering if we will have to pay for medicre and school costs? We thought that the forum may be the best place to start out investigations into this. It's a permanent visa so no costs for government schools beyond the standard "voluntary" donations that pretty much every school asks for (up to $100 per term, set by the individual schools and theoretically voluntary but with a general expectation that you will pay) plus books, excursions, performances, uniforms, extra lessons, some subject levies etc. Yes you will pay into medicare - 1.5% of your taxable income will be taken out by your employer with your pay. If you are a high income family then you may want to consider private health insurance if you earn over the threshold otherwise you pay an additional 1% surcharge. Phil & Vikki
That is a great help and clears up a few of the questions that we have, thanks for that. Just wonder if you know the answer to this one too; With the 1.5% taken out for medicare, does that cover the whole of the family or just the person who's wages the money is being taken out of? We are hoping that it would be all the family.
