ACS Skills Assessments - Important for IT people

Hi All,

my partner and I are currently pursuing the 175 Visa based on his Electrician trade skills. However, after seeing that ICT Business Analyst is now on the SOL list it may now be possible to go down this route instead as the assessment is a) cheaper and b) less long winded than the trade skills assessment for an Electirician.

I'm looking for some clarification from anyone who might know, as to whether I am a suitable candidate as we don't want to waste time or money on this if not. I have been working as an IT Business Analyst/Project Manager at my county council for 18 months and have a BSC(Hons) degree in Software Engineering. In between uni and my current employment I worked as a web developer. I have also passed my Prince2 foundation and pratitioners and also Business Analyis Part 1. I am due to undertake BA part 2 later this year.

I've read through the info on the ACS site but if possible it's always great to get first hand advice/experiences with this Visa stuff.

My questions:

1) Do I need to wait until I've been in my current employment for 2 years before applying for assessment or will my previous work experince be adequate even though it's not in business analysis?

2)Am I a suitable candidate for this? I always imangine that they're looking for people with years of experience as a Business Analysis and where my role involves both BA and project management work I'm unsure if this is ok or not.

Thanks in advance for any info - I've only just started looking into this today so forgive me if this has already been brought up by somebody else and answered!

Carla

IT Recent graduate are not under CSL or Priority

Cheers,

Hello George,

Thanks for the help.

I looked into the 261313 Definition, It almost matching to my work experience.

"Specialisation : Computer Application Engineer".

But If DIAC is still following the CSL list then should I wait till it officially revoked and new SOL will be effective as CSL list? OR should I go ahead and apply. I am worried because I dont want to stuck in 3 years processing time.

Please guide me.

-Thanks

Manasi

When getting an assessment through the ACS, has anyone ever had issues with their work experience? Basically I'm in the situation where I've an employer that I've worked for, for quite some time and they would be a big part of my work experience to date. However it's a large multinational and they will only give me a statement saying that I was employed by then between certain dates, and possibly the job title I held at those times. They won't provide any sort of reference or statement that indicates my job duties. It seem's to be the company policy.

Has anyone else ever encountered this and if so, how did you get past it and get a successful assessment from the ACS?

Thanks.

Go to your supervisor at that company and he can write your reference in his/her PERSONAL letterhead. And other option (As already said) is statuatory declaration of self.

But along with this, your job position and tenure written by your company is also necessary.

Thanks,

Lalit.

I guess, in general, individuals (in software companies) wont be having letter heads. There will be only company letter lead. If that is the case with you too and if you dont want to go and ask for reference letter, along with offer letter, releiving letter, experience letter, payslips, bank statments, tax filings, you can go for statutory declaration(with job description/roles/duties/responsibilities etc) of self, and 1 or 2 colleagues(along with their business cards).

Just a note. Today, i applied to ACS for ANZSCO 261313 and found that in the online form that it has, along with the the ANZSCO code, there used to be a field of "MODL description "; which is now renamed to "MODL Description/State Nomination". Hence, the specilization in computer skills will do exists. (I guess).

But the NSW state sponsorship link has ANZSCO code along with the specialisation like Java, Siebel & Oracle. This is too much confusing... :err:. I wish DIAC has some proper procedure that makes some sense before implementing major changes :arghh:.
