Employer's Sponsorship Visa

Afternoon everyone,

I was just wondering, how successful are the employer's sponsorship visa's and roughly if anyone could tell me what the set up is?

ie do we need to job hunt and ask for sponsorship or should our agents (Go Matilda) be doing that? Also is there an age restriction of 45 yrs like all the other visas as we've heard and read that there is NO age restriction.

Cheerz guys!!

i think you would probably have to try and find someone yourself, agents are there to help with the application, they may charge you an extra fee, but i honestly dont know, you would have to ask them. I think there is still a restriction of 45 yrs old except in certain circumstances

Age exemptions

Exceptional circumstances for the age requirement might be considered in the following cases:

AgeExceptional circumstances45 years to less than 50 years old

  • the position is essential to the operation of the business
    and
  • the employer demonstrates that it is not possible to find a suitably qualified person younger than the applicant.

50 years to less than 55 years old

  • the occupation is on the Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL) or is an Australian Standard Classification of Occupations (ASCO) major group 1, 2 or 3 occupation
See: Is your occupation in demand?
    and
  • the position is so unusual or highly specialised that it is not possible to find a suitably qualified person younger than the applicant.

55 years to less than 60 years old

  • the occupation is on the MODL or an ASCO major group 1 or 2 occupation
See: Is your occupation in demand?
    and
  • the position would normally require a person with skills and experience acquired over many years
    Example: Senior academics or scientists.
    and
  • the position is so unusual or highly specialised that it is not possible to find a suitably qualified person younger than the applicant.

Note: Exceptional circumstances are generally not considered for applicants who are 60 years or older.

OR if you find a sponsor in a regional area, employer sponsored visas are given prority over ALL other visas, so if you can get someone to sponsor not only is it the quickest option but also the cheaper option than applying yourslef BUT you will have to work for the company for a certain amount of time.

We will certainly be trying to get my hubby to get sponsored then but he is 45 next July.. so the clock is ticking cos failing that we'll have to wait another 12 months for me to finish my studies and get paid work experience etc etc... thanks again!! xx

Hi Lainey, we came on a 457 sponsored visa, and my husband was 48 already, you would certainly have to look for a job yourselves and get the company to sponsor you, as long as the profession is on the ENSOL list too. Migration agents only do the visa paperwork. Try searching on www.seek.com.au but there are other sites depending on his profession. Best of luck, Sami

Hi Lainey

You have said that Hubby is "in engineering." What is his actual occupation, please? Please choose from the list below:

A-Z Occupations List - Australian Skills Recognition Information

When is his 45th birthday? Please tell me dd/mm/yyyy.

I am concerned that you might be wasting valuable time thinking about employer sponsorship (the two in the bush) instead of cracking on with preparations for lodging a skilled independent visa application instead (the bird in the hand.)

Cheers

Gill

Hi Gill,

We have already tried to apply for the Skilled Occuaption & regional visa but are short by 5 points.. so the next thing for us is either for hubby to get an employers sponsorship or we apply on my application.

Chris (hubby) works on highways and transport engineering and so has limited experience in all engineering aspects and that was under the Civil Engineering Associate & Technician occupations and so we were advised to proceed with an appication that reviews skills and experience in more detail but were advised that it didn't look good as Chris works for local authority which again limits his experience... so we coulld've paid £2000 for this review and still be knocked back.

Hope that all made sense!! lol!!
