Guest The Pom Queen
Hi Claire You have Wicked Campers, they are around $500 a week and you can squeeze 3 in, they are very tiny and like VW Camper Vans, you usually find backpackers using them to get around Oz. For a Britz one again same type of shape you would be looking around $1000 per week with excess reduction and for one a little more luxurious with a toilet you would be looking at around $2100 per week in the Explorer, take a look here: Britz Campervan Hire & Car Rentals Australia - Motorhomes, RVs and Cars to Rent then on top of these you will have your camp site fees, we rented the Britz Escape this year and we didn't factor in to account that we would need to go on site to charge the electric, get water etc. As we were travelling from Alice to Darwin we were also advised to use camp sites for safety reasons rather than parking on the side of the road. So we had an extra $350 per week to add on for this. The experience was wonderful although there was not a lot of space for luggage etc, and we have said if we do it again which we probably will next year we would only take one rucksack each. It may be cheaper for you to book an apartment or a house somewhere in the long run if you are wanting to stay central to Melbourne, although the experience in the camper was fun, but watch out as we ended up with two flat tyres and stranded in the outback for 24 hours, very very scary. But don't worry for getting around Melbourne you will be fine, lol, unfortunately although the high spec vans have air con and tv they don't have heating, so yes you may get a little cold, especially at night:wubclub:
jamie
hi claire,if your after a good cheap all rounder you wont go wrong with calypso campervans in ringwood melb ,i think they even pick you up from airport if need be,you can hire a hi-top toyota with sun awning for around $50 - $70 day and i think the excess is only $1000 incl but can be reduced (never worth it unless your not a good driver!!!!!!). we have used them several times with no probs our 3year old son sleeps in the roof section and loves it (bit small for an adult)there are plenty of places you can go for free camping and be safe and make sure you go to the prom ,a must. www.calypsocampervans.com.au this is there site,we find as the vans are slightly older then the bigger companies they are a bit more relaxed when it comes to the hireing and you dont worry about a bit of sand or food wastage whilst you are on your hols.just remember cheap and cheerful but more then suitable and 1000000 times better then wicked vans. have fun JAY:jiggy:
