Will the UK Recover From Financial Decline ?

You paint a rosy picture, but the reality is that unemployment for young people in Aus is also very bad. The way Oz Govt gets round it is to subsidize large amount of university places to keep them off the unemployment figures. There is also a massive incentive for the Uni's to attract the kids as we only have a small population & we have five universities in the metropolitan area all jostling for the business.

That's great you may say; but whilst this has been happening the construction industry cannot attract apprentices, so what happens is we end up with tons of kids with degrees who can't find work.

From what I can see, for some reason both Australia and the UK seem to be hell bent on "importing" hundreds of thousands of people every year. Yet they don't seem to be able to manage to even provide decent job - or even a decent education - to everyone already in the countries who wants one. The Stats office over here predict the population will grow to 70 million in just 20 more years. And this in spite of record emigration levels from the UK. How on earth are we going to house another 8.6 million people, let alone find jobs for them all?

I hope for a hung parliament, with the price of whoever woos the Lib Dems, the SNP and whoever else ends up holding the balance of power being some method of proportional representation, instead of first past the post. Even the Australian method of voting is fairer than here.
