MissionAussiePR
Hello, Does stay in Australia on 457 visa counts toward 4 years resident requirement before applying for citizenship. a) I mean will 3years on 457 visa + 1year as PR, eligible to apply for citizen ship or not ? b) And 2 year on 457 visa consecutive then 1year gap(back to home country) then 2years on PR, eligible to apply for citizenship ? I checked this Step 1: Am I eligible? – General eligibility. But, wanted to confirm. PS: Mods, if you want you can delete my previous thread http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/migration-issues/62387-page-ranking-australian-citizenship.html Cheers, MA
Don QuayPoly
Hi, I also looked into this and took it as -: a) Yes the time spent in Oz on a 457 does count, as you are still "lawfully resident" b) Yes also, as long as the gap "year" is NO LONGER than a year. Guest proud2beaussie
The post above from Don is quite correct. If you want to use it there is a "Residence Calculator" at Step 1: Am I eligible? – General eligibility which allows you to put in future dates that will give you a yes or no answer about eligibility for citizenship. ali
You can ring the dept of immigration and ask them - they're very helpful and will work out your eligibility date for you. Ali
MissionAussiePR
Thanks all ! All above reply was helpful. Issue Clarified. Resident Calculator helped to confirm everything. When I clicked that resident calculator last time, I exited because in the first screen it talk about browser requirement, as generally that comes if your browser is not compatible, so I thought my browser is not compatible. But, it looks it is general message that will appear for all. DIAC should look into this.
