lynnes
Hi can anyone shed any light on the cost of local council taxes in Brisbane and surrounding suburbs, Is this the same as we pay here in England ie, rates, water rates, council tax etc. Also what is the minimum rental agreement on property. We are worried we find a house to rent only to find we later dont like the area or it is too fare to commute to work. Its so hard to tell from the internet. :arghh: many thanks Lynne
calNgary
Hi most people book holiday or furnished accommodation for their first few weeks whilst they look around at areas. When you find somewhere you feel is right for you, then sign up for a 6 month rental, it is surprising how quick 6 months passes, it is then your choice to stay or move on. If you are renting you wont pay rates as this is the landlords responsibility, you will pay electric, phone/internet, and possibly water charges (although i am personally yet to find a rental where you pay the water ,it has been known) you will also be responsibile for taking out contents insurance, the landlord is responsibile for buildings insurance. Hope this helps a bit Cal x
lynnes
Thanks Cal, It was just another one of those things that suddenly jump into your head when thinking of finances. We just cant seem to make up our mind on where to go, for ages we were looking at Springfield Lakes or Collingwood Park but not think it may be too far to travel and are now looking at Goodna

We had a look at a house in Goodna when we filmed Wanted Down Under, property is reasonably priced but from what i saw parts of Goodna looked abit 'tierd' so make sure you look for yourself before commiting to anywere. For the extra few minutes it would add to your commute i personally would go for one of your other choices. Good Luck with everything Cal x
