  2. hi Have you checked out the AAMT website, I am a massage therapist too but dont do it here, I was sponsored to come on my nursing qualifications so that is my main job but I would like to do more massage. Massage and complimentary therapies are big over here and I'm sure you would get work but as to wether you could get a sponsorship i;m not sure. QAcademy in Brisbane is also worth checking out, they teach massage therapies not just in QLD but also Sydney and Melbourne too I think, Good luck, hope you get something sorted soon,
  3. hi guys and welcome to Brisbane, hope you are settling in well. Always up for a coffee, (and a wine or 3)
  4. Hi everyone. its been a while since I've posted on here (but still silently browse) I need some advice and help please from accountants. My daughter in law is about to sit her CIMA exams next month (having passed all her other exams). Does anyone know how she goes about getting her qualifications assessed and verified in Australia. My son and daugher in law want to move here once she has taken her exams but not sure how to get her skills assessed. My son is about to leave the british army after 16 yrs service but has no formal qualifications which are needed here, so its all down to Kamila. (no pressure) thanks in advance lynne
  5. thanks Rupert, yes we will make a profit on the UK house. and of course we want to keep it all above board. We like living here too much to put that in jepody. Just not too hot on the finance and legal aspects of it all. Think we will go see a financial advisor at the bank.
  6. Hi, Can anyone help with some advice please. We have been in Australia for 3 years and at the stage where we are thinking of selling our UK property. Do we have to pay tax on the amount we transfer which we think will be in the region of £150,000. If so how much will this be, or would we be better to just put the money in a high interest account in the uk and get the interest on it. We would like to pay off as much of our Aus morgage with the money we make on the Uk house. Not sure of the best options really. thanks Lynne
  7. my 20 yr old was included on my ENS pr visa.. we just had to prove she was 'substantially' dependant on us for all her living expenses.. rent, food, transport etc. it was a lot of paperwork but we got there in the end. We came out on 457 and got PR a yr later.
  8. [h=2][/h] Hi guys, My son has just found out he is possibly (well very probably) soon going to be made redundant from the British Army. He will find out for sure in June. He and his wife want to come to Australia if this happens and therefor need to start making plans for work, visa's etc. He is 31yrs old and has been in the Army since he was 16. He has various driving skills including HGV. The past couple of years he has spent teaching recruits adventure training so he is very fit. He is looking at the mining industry to begin with so can anyone give me any advice/contacts I can pass on to him. He needs to start the process now in the event he does get made redundant. His wife is also 31 and a qualified accountant. All help gratefully received. Many thanks Lynne

    wanted small car

hi there, are you still looking for a small car???. My stepdaughter is selling her Daihatsu Sirion as she is moving back to the UK. She is looking for around the $3000 mark for it. Its a great little car and has never let her down.
  12. Hi Reillis, There is a guy on there called Alan Noble who works in recruitment, its mainly in the mining industry but he may be able to help you with the information you need. sorry but i dont have a contact number but you could google Alexander Mann Solutions, which is the company he works at. hope you find what you are looking for. keep trying. Lynne
  13. my stepdaughter is moving back to the UK in a couple of weeks  and needs to sell her car ASAP. Sadly she has had a lot of time wasters and very dodgy calls from other sites. Its a great little car, fab first time car, very reliable, she has been all over Brisbane, the Gold and Sunshine Coasts with it and it has never let her down. Guilt!

feeling guilty is so natural. I have left my parents and both my adult children (and grandchildren) in the uk and know exactly how you feel. My parents are in their 80's and cant travel to Oz so at least your parents can visit which helps a bit. Try looking at the move from a different angle.... your parents and your husbands parents have raised you both to be loving, caring, strong adventurous confident people.... thier job is now done (though you will always be thier baby). its now your turn to give your child the best possible start in life and if that is in Australia then thats what you must do. If, in a few years time you decide thats its not for you then you can always go back, but at least you will know in your heart of hearts you have given it a go. I only wish I'd raised my children here, life is too short for regrets. you will have moments when you have a major wobble, and if you are anything like me (and probably most of us on here) you will begin to hate heathrow airport departure lounge lol. But it does help that your family is supporting your decision. enjoy the adventure, all the best.
  15. My stepdaughter is moving back to the UK in Mid Feb and needs to sell her car. Its a Daihatsu Sirion 5 door hatchback manual. Air con and central locking. Its a great little car ideal for learning to drive or little runaround. She's driven it all over the place with no problems, (Tamborine Mountain, Bribie, Gold Coast) Its very economical on petrol and comes with 6 months rego and roadworthy cirtificate. I think she is asking £3,800 ono for it. Please let me know if anyone interested. Many thanks Lynne

    Hayfever tablets?!

they are expensive.. I get some sent or brought over from the UK when anyone is visiting.
  17. Hey there, My stepdaughter might be interested too. she is 20 and just got back from a 5 week holiday in the UK and missing all her friends. She has been here a year now and as we live bayside is finding it hard to meet new folk.
  18. Hi Marta, please dont be put off, its just a question of getting organised lol. you just need to contact the relevant country's police department head office and they will advise you what to do. I work with a lady who has lived in the UK, China, Saudi and Australia, and she got hers all ok. For me the frustrating bit was getting my photo's verified by someone who has known you 2 years as I'd only lived here for 1 yr. I had to get the police check forms done (you can download them from the police website) then send them with a forwarding envelope to one of my Uk friends who verified the pics then posted the whole lot on to the police dept. for me. As for the cost I think that pretty standard around $2600 i think its a pain as Diac already have all your info but they want it again. :-( hope i havent scared you off doing it, you can of course hand it all to a migration agent who takes the pressure off but for me thats just more expense and it really isnt too difficult, just time consuming lol
  19. HI, we live in Wynnum which is just next to manly and I work at the Mater, the drive in takes me around 20mins off peak (6.30am) its only really bust after 8am for the rush hour then it can take an hour. getting to the valley will add another 15mins or so. I cant be sure as i dont go there very often. There is a good train service from Manly/Wynnum or so i'm told.. again i have not used it so cant comment honestly on that one. We love living by the bay and for us the drive time is worth it but we dont have school age kids to worry about. good luck with your decision. It might be worth you doing the drive in at the time you would be doing it for work to get a feel of it, could you rent holiday place for a few days and check it out.... cheaper than making the move and regretting it, just make sure you do it in term time as this too makes a difference to commute time and parking issues.
  20. Hi no problem happy to help. Cost is around $3000 for the application, then you need police checks for here in australia and UK, (and any country you have lived in for more than 12 months). Possible medicals depending on where you are going to work. If you or your family will be in health care or education you need a full medical otherwise I believe its just chest xrays. Incidental costs are getting all your documents certified. Wen you can apply depends on your employers policy, some will do it straight away, some after 3 months. For me I had to work for my employer for 12 months first full time. If you dont like where you are working this can be a strain so check first if you can. If they have a really long lock in period it might be worth shopping around for a different sposnor. Incidently, if you come on a 457 and find you really cant get on with your employer and leave you have only 28 days to find another sponsor willing to take over the 457 or you have to leave the county. Where are you planning to settle, the info i've given is for queensland, each state may be slights different but i'm not sure on that. keep in touch and let us all know how you get on.
  21. mine was relativly easy. Lots of forms but fairly straightforward if you take it easy and read, re read and re read again before you post them off. Get a friend to proof read them too. Your employer has to submit their part of the application first then you have 6 months to submit yours. Depending on your employers policy you may have to commit to working for them for a period of time, for me its 2 years. Also check first if the application is on or off shore, if its off shore everyone who is incuded on the application has to leave the county at the time the application is granted, if its onshore then you all have to be in australia. Time scales vary, ours took 6 weeks from getting confirmation of receipt of application to it being granted but that was quick (I work in the health sector and these tend to be quicker). The forms can look daunting but just take your time filling them in (i spent about 4 weeks just doing a bit at a time and re checking them. I almost missed one page as it was asking for parents and siblings details and as they were not emmigrating I didnt think it was relevant... it is. good luck with it all x
  22. HI Tracy.. i'm just off to work but will be happy to fill you in later when i get home. The Mater has both a private and public sector and I work in the public side. Its a busy ward and can get a bit frustrating at time just like any hospital. But on the whole I do enjoy it. I'll give you more info later as i'm runnig late.... no change there lol
  23. Hi and welcome to Brisbane. They are all lovely area's and you have a tough choice. I cant comment on the schools as I dont have school age kids but I'm sure someone will be along soon to give you some advice. Have you thought of Wynnum/Manly/Lota area too. Not so much beach there but a lovey bayside area. Good luck with it all. Lynne
  24. I agree with Cal, Springfield Lakes is nice, I dont know about the other areas as I havent been to them.. but talking to people at word my advice would be.... dont put the kids in school in Ipswich or Inala.
