Moving to Darwin

Recommended Posts

I am moving to Darwin in June  and I start my new job in Palmerston in July from the UK.  I have four children and am wondering if the rents are really hard to obtain with a budget really of no more than $600 per week?   And are there any short term rentals / caravan parks (as we stayed in one of these in Brisbane and it was okay for a temporary period), you could recommend.

Thanks for reading.

Kind regards, Stacey

G'day Sacey, have a squiz at Coolalinga, the tourist park:

Coolalinga is about 26 km south of the Darwin.

Also, Virginia, still a bit closer to Palmerson:

I have stayed at Coolalinga on a couple of occasions and my only gripe is the cabins are a bit small, otherwise a great place, Also, there is a good shopping precinct within a 5 minute walk.

Cheers, Bobj.

PS. Don't let the "nay sayers" get you down. The Darwin is a great place.

I think @DrDougster started out in Darwin so he may have some hints.   @Huntersmummy is in the process of moving from Darwin to Perth so she might know something about current rental prices.

Look on realestate.com.au and domain.com.au to get an idea of rental properties.  Look at homely.com.au to get reviews of the suburbs.

Thank you for responding, we have been looking on line and see many properties come up, but the news we are seeing over here is housing shortages and large queues to view properties.  Wanted to understand is if it is difficult to get a rent as we have no recent history although I will be employed by the Government on arrival.

Thank you for reading and you help,

Kind regards, Stacey
