Dilshan Gunewardena
Hi guys, I've got a question for you. I was initally granted my PR in 1999 but since I didn't live in Australia for the required time I was not granted an RRV. I appealed this in 2019 and by the end 2019 I was granted my RRV. I moved to Australia in Sept 2020. My question is, for my citizenship, is my PR considered from the the dat e of initial grant ( Nov 1999) or from the date of the RRV grant. Thanks in advance. Toots
You have to be lawfully residing in Australia for 4 years immediately before applying for citizenship so you can apply in September 2024. I'm sure somebody far more knowledgeable than me will be able to help but I think that is correct.
Dilshan Gunewardena
Thanks for the reply, I believe that's the general interpretation of the law for PR granted after 2007. Since my original PR was granted in 1999, I would like to know which date takes precedence. Because pre 2007 it was a 2 year requirement. I cannot find any government site which says the current 4 year residency requirement applies only to those who gained PR after 2007.
