Initial assessment - 309/100 partner visa

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody. Hope you are all well and are progressing well through the stages!

I am an Australian and have been living in the Uk for the last 12 years. We have recently decided that life or us is back in the UK and have started the process for my husband (Uk citizen applying for 309/100) and our 2 kids (who are applying for citizenship by decent). We lodged our initial application on 24th March and then were in the process of collating the requested documents for upload as a part of the next stage. We then received a request for more information from what appeared to be a case advisor on the 25th. Our questions are, 1) does this notification happen instantly or does this mean a case advisor has been assigned to us (status has also changed from submitted to intital assessment) and 2) would this be the point at which we will need to arrange for medical and police checks or with this come in the form of a specific request for information? Just conscious of their 12 month validity so don’t really want to have to undertake twice!

We had prepared ourselves for a long process so can’t quite believe that would have already received a request for information.

Thanks in advance for any advice for two complete novices!

Looks like you haven’t completed the application properly and/or have not uploaded sufficient documentation. This needs to be fixed ASAP. If you are unclear on what is missing, I suggest you get some professional advice. As the notice says, they can/will make a decision based on what has been provided.

Thank you. Yes absolutely get that (there wasn’t any documents on there at all at this point) We lodged the first part on 24th and were in the process of getting the documents together when we received the RFI on 25th (the next day). We were of the belief we had longer to sort before a case advisor was assigned. Our dilemma is does the request for documents include the police and medical check at this point? Or will this come in a further s56?

It's everything. Provide it now or never, basically.  I think it might be wise to have a chat with Paul - maybe an agent will be able to buy you some time.

The lesson (which may not help you now, unfortunately) is that you don't submt the first part until you've got all your documents together and can submit the lot.  Fingers crossed for you.

You have 28 days to submit all of the evidence of your relationship and supporting documents. Generally you want to "front load" your application, which means having everything ready and prepared.

At this stage, unless you are 100% clear on everything you need to supply and have it pretty much sorted out, get in touch with a Registered Migration Agent ASAP. They will look over the application and get everything together.

Yes, you will need the Police Checks, apply for one now and just submit it when you get it. As @Marisawright wrote, you'll need a hand from a professional to buy you some time.
