Hi,

we are flying to Brisbane on 23rd August with 3 children 6,3 and 16mnths. Please can any one tell me what car will fit 3 car seats in a row. One will be a high back booster so need to be able to plug the seat belt in and out.

We have been looking at 7 seater's as well but not every seat has an anchor point.

If anyone has 3 young children please tell me what car you have?

Thanks

Barb

Hi there, I have 5 kids between the ages of 4 months and 10 so I'll be looking for a monster car! I think the Chrysler Grand Voyager looks like a good bet as it has 8 seats and a massive boot, don't know about anchor points but will only have 2 needing car seats ( I think...). The Kia equivalent could be another good one but I was told their safety credentials are poor. I'm also going to look for a 2 seater for me and my bag.:biglaugh:

Hi

Thanks for reply, wow that's hard work 5 kids! I'd want a 2 seater as well, can only dream!!

I think the Grand Voyager is a bit pricey for us. I have looked at the Kia Carnival but the middle seats are lap belts only. If possible I would like to try and put them all in the 2nd row (which is what I do now), so I have enough boot space.

Hi Barb,

The Grand Voyagers are very expensive but we found a really good deal here on a second hand one which we would have jumped at if we were staying. The thing I'm not sure about is how much servicing and repairs cost for cars not built in Oz? If only Ford built Galaxy's in Oz. You should have a look at the Holden website as they do a nice looking 7 seater, an suv type version of the Zafira.

(I find that the right mix of gin and valium makes 5 kids a breeze!!)

LOL!

Funny you should mention Galaxy that's exactly what we've got!!! They don't seem to make anything with 3 individual seats, nightmare!

Barb,

When we were there earlier this year we rented a Ford Falcon - it was called a 'station wagon' over there but it is what we know as an estate car.

It was huge - bigger than any estate car I have ever seen - American size!

That only had one isofix anchor point in the center rear but we moved the seat to the side and fixed it with the seatbelts.

This car would comfortably get 3 baby seats in the back.

We bought a 7 seater Suzuki Grand Vitara, but that won't fit three car seats across the middle row, so one goes in the back!

My husband has a Suzuki Liana, (similar size to an Escort/Mondeo maybe?)and that does fit three across the back though. Two of them are boosters, and we can plug them in and out with a bit of jiggling- bit fiddly, but it does work.

what about the Kia?

If you need to buy a car,let me know as as I have said before i know a guy that deals direct with the auctions saving you $$$$, really know's his stuff.

I relocated someone about 8 weeks ago who bought a car for $14000 they have decided that Oz is not for them so went to take the car back to the garage who only gave them $5000 back for it, just shows how much you pay over the odds from a garage. Many of my clients have used this guy and have been more than happy with what he has saved them, so let me know if you need any help

Hi Sarah,

Thanks for that, it would be useful to have this guy's details, my OH has been offered an novated lease thing through his work but we're not sure if we will use it. The problem is not all the seats have anchor points. How easy is it to put them in?

Thanks Jo, hadn't even thought about Suzuki, will do some more research. We may be able to go for 2 boosters as well our 3 yr old might just be old/heavy enough which may make it easier.

Hi! We have 4 kids, 11, 9, 5 & 2. We have bought a Toyota Tarago, good value 1 year old, got the remaining maufacturers guarantee AND an additional 3 years from the dealer. It has 8 seats (don't know about the anchor points) you can comfortably have four children with good leg space for adults on all seats, great space and good boot, we had a Chrysler previously, good car the sdandard models boot was compact, but they are also quite pricey here. There are many dealers that sell off ex-rental Tarago's, usually about 2 years old with 30,000km on the clock.

Good luck, hope you find what you want.

Hi there

I thought I'd throw in the Honda Odysey, Mitsubishi Grandis or Toyota Grand Avensis.

These type of cars look pretty much like an estate or wagon but have a third row of seats. We have the Honda and we can 'spread' our three kids out, which works wonderfully on long journeys. This only has a lapbelt in the 2nd row centre seat though, but it does have an anchor point for a baby seat. It may be possible to put all three across centre seats but you would have to try this out first. Another advantage is that the 2nd row can be moved back or forwards making it easier to reach the children sat behind you. With the 3rd row folded down it gives you a HUGE boot space and the seats are full adult size, making it handy to transport visitors.

We looked at the Toyota Tarago and have owned a Shogun (Pajero) and found this the nicer looking and more practicle vehicle. But it is down to personal taste, finance and practicalities. After all, I'd have an Aston Martin if I was single & rich...:biglaugh:
