Aussiebird
Confused and need anyone to explain a bit about the schooling system please!! Is school leaving age 16 or 18? Which ever above age, what happens after that? Not all students want to go on to Uni but is College compulsory? Can you leave school to look for work? Will be moving to South Perth area in WA. TIA. ali
It depends when the birthday falls, some children will be 17 or 18. After school, if students have not chosen a Uni pathway - some will go on and study at TAFE and others will just get a job. Not compulsory to go to Uni. You can leave school at the end of year 10 if you have a full time job or are studying at TAFE. Most schools will also offer vocational pathways so that you combine school and TAFE during years 11 and 12 My son is a Sept child and he was 18 a few days after officially leaving school

He will be 17 in June 2021. He doesn't want a uni pathway, just wants to leave school and find a job. Does he have to have any certificates to say he has left school/gained qualifications at school in order for him to get a job if he doesn't go to Tafe? AussieMum
For Western Australia: " You have to stay in school or training or approved work (or in a combination of approved options) until the end of the year in which you turn 17 and 6 months or you have reached the age of 18 years, whichever happens first.
