Guest The Pom Queen
HORSES, trainers and groundskeepers all stopped in their tracks this morning as a 2m carpet python slithered out of the scrub around the Cairns Jockey Club to keep them company. Cairns Jockey Club general manager John Cameron said this was the first sighting of the ground’s mysterious carpet python family. “We have quite a number of resident carpet python snakes,” he said. “They are generally off within the tree line.”

We only saw them because we had chickens and they would visit from the rainforest behind for their KFC. They were all Scrub Pythons like this, harmless to us. We had three more snake incidents: Son playing in the waterfall at the side of the house, he turned around and a red bellied black (lethal) was in the striking pose ready to have a go at him. Middle son went out to put the rubbish out at night and nearly stood on a brown. @Cerberus1 wanted to put oil in the car, put his hand under the bonnet to flick the catch, opened the bonnet and there curled up in the engine was another Eastern Brown.
