Subclass 189 skilled visa (new to this)

Recommended Posts

Hi all

I am new to this and looking for some advice please! I am a newly qualified registered general nurse and looking into a PR visa, I understand this will be a 189 visa which I need to note a EOI first of all and then wait for an invite, this gives myself, going on points of 65 which will include 5 points because of my partner, (he will be included in my visa) as I dont have alot of work experience due to just being qualified and being at university for 3 years with hospitals experience included withing my degree. The 190 gives me 70 points.

My partner works as a painter and decorator and he would also qualify for the 189 visa and has worked within his job role for 15 years +, which one of us would be best applying and then for the other to be included within the visa, i also understand that I need to sit an English test.

Also is it easy enough going through the process of it yourself with noting the EOI and then paperwork etc or would it be easier going through an MARA agent, quotes given by them are about £2500.

Many thanks

You don't mention the skills assessment? As a nurse you need a skills assessment from ANMAC before you can lodge an EOI.

If you are looking to apply fairly soon, then you might be better looking at a 190 as at the moment nobody with 65 points or less are being invited on a 189. Or, see if your partner could get more points and he applies as main applicant.

If you want to use points for your partners skills then he will also need a positive skills assessment.

Your English test will be needed for both points and as part of your skills assessment and for the skills assessment you need to take the academic version. If you score enough on this for both the skills assessment and the points you need, then that is fine, but if you don't score enough on points you can take the academic for the skills assessment and the general which is easier for the points.

Thank you @VERYSTORMY , when I had a brief meeting with an agent at a jobs fair in Scotland last August, she said it would be better if my partner and I go on the same visa, we need to prove we have lived together for 1 year, which is fine easy enough.

As it is fairly racking up cost wise with visas, medical, police checks, skills assessments etc looking at £4500+ (If we do the process ourselves) we are thinking it will be about 2-3 years time wise to move over, as I have been told it can take anything upto 12-14 months to be granted, or if we go with an agent another £2500 on top of everything else. My son will also be included on the visa, he is 14 at present and if its within this time frame he will be under 18.

Are there any pointers you could give me or where to start out, ( what would be best doing first) etc, it would be very much appreciated.

Thank you

As far as I am aware you need to do English Exam for ANMAC - Academic English IELTS or Pearsons Academic. https://www.anmac.org.au/skilled-migration-services/full-skills-assessment

I did Pearsons academic and got 90/90 for all 4 sections and then submitted for full skills assessment to ANMAC and received a positive skills assessment in January - then put in an Expression of Interest for a 189 visa with 65 points. I will apply later today or tomorrow for the 190 NSW state sponsored with 65 points plus 5 points for state nomination.

Wishing you all the best as I am relatively new here too xx

First step would be the English test for the skills assessment. Then the skills assessment.

I am, after 3 visas then citizenship a big fan of using an agent. Yes, you pay for their services, but the fee is a drop in the ocean of the total cost of migrating. At the same time it is very easy to make a mistake that results in a refusal. A refusal means loss of fee and potentially even a ban on reapplying
