Ā Please see an official status email received from the 187/186 visa section of the Department. They do confirm that they are currently assessing applications lodged in November 2015. Ā I am also sending you a copy of the RSMS file that was lodged in 1 July 2016, which was lodged in End-October. Ā There are delays to the Departmentās processing, quite possibly due to large volumes of files (a lot of files are lodged before Christmas holidays, hence people tend to lodge in November or early December). Ā I believe your friend may have incorrectly understood his/her migration agent, as no migration agent would say something that illogical. It's well known that the 186 is a higher prized visa than the 187. The 187 has less strict rules ie not having the same minimum income etc, so more people apply for it who are on the borderline. This means more checks into both them and their employer. Visas are actually being processed much quicker than a few years ago when it was not uncommon at all for people to be waiting over a year. Your best bet is to stay calm and patient and just wait for your visa. If you and the company tick all the boxes then it will be on it's way.
