Thanks for your reply wrussell. Would you think that the bridging visa E was a valid visa to contribute to my 4 year lawful requirement? Do you think this would affect my processing?

Hello, I am currently wondering what my best option is. I am a permanent resident which was granted on 19.07.2016 however before this I was granted a bridging visa E on the 17.12.2015 after voluntarily cancelling my student visa to pursue my PR through 187. Now I’m under the impression I am eligible for citizenship since 17.12.2019, 4 years after becoming lawful again on my bridging visa E or should I wait until it’s been 4 years since my PR was granted? I would be so grateful for anyone’s opinion. I am also looking to legally change my surname and not sure if this will effect my citizenship application? Thanks in advance

Yeah I get what you’re saying. I meant change his email address to his personal one as I think they are both set as mine hence why I’m receiving his update notifications?

Yes I’ve changed the password maybe I need to put his email as I got the notification for his passport update

Hey everyone, You all helped me so much as I anxiously waited for my PR a few years ago. After nearly a year on my 187 PR the partner who I sponsored through this visa and I broke up. We are not on good terms. I’m wondering if when I complete my citizenship independently will this create my own individual immi account or will my immi account be removed altogether? Please help as sharing an immi account creates unnecessary communication which gives me anxiety

No because I haven't done a year as a resident. I was told on here that as I was unlawful regardless of how long, in my case 2 hours or so, that restarts the 4 year requirement.

Still sticking it out. 6 months will be completed this week. Another girl working with me that hasn't even received her grant yet. I feel for her too. Things are slightly better. Visited family back home after 5 years without seeing them. Finally got my drivers licence. Anyone else counting down their two years??

Just to do the nomination cost me $3,300 with an agent  this was for 187

no lots of emails but that's when it was changing to the new name

<p> it was quite the bummer. tbh it took contacting the student visa processing centre two months later once I actually realised my bridging visa wasn't in effect(read the bridging visa grant letter after wondering why it was taking so long to hear back) who then contacted the correct department who first contacted me by phone. My ex partner was also in contact with them sending various emails but nothing ever happened just kept fobbing him off to another email address. no I think it must be done by email as they then have to send you an intention to cancel notice which you have a choice to respond to. the only impact is seems to have made is resetting my clock for citizenship. I went on to cancel that student visa so I could move and begin work for my permanent visa sponsor. It has been a complicated road. if you call they will give you the right email to contact don't think I can post it on here</p>

It also took a lot of requests for it to be cancelled they didn't just automatically do it. it was a lot of persistence on my part

<p> If your 457 is cancelled you will become illegal whether you want to or not. i was on a 457 as defacto, as we split I lodged a student visa and also informed Immi of my request to cancel my 457. My bridging visa wasn't in effect as my 457 still was and my student visa was unable to be processed because of my 457 still being current I was told. Once my 457 was cancelled so was my bridging visa leaving me illegal with no other option than a bridging visa E. I was lucky to get work rights as I wasn't doing anything wrong just cancelling my visa due to a relationship breakdown however I had no travel right or option to apply for another visa if my student visa was denied. I think the only options are Aussie partner visa, medical treatment visa or asylum visa none of which I was eligible for. Luckily once my 457 was cancelled around three weeks later my student visa was granted. Just thought I would share how it worked for me</p>

Yeah that's crazy. Mine just passed two months granted yesterday. Very grateful each day but counting the days until I can move back to the city

Be careful though the man that rung me was lovely said I would just have to go into an Immi office to apply for a new bridging visa failed to tell me I would be illegal once the cancellation was finalised and my only option was a bridging visa e. I was highly pissed off

No it was this time last year. It was all a run around he had to send in a stat dec signed by a JP and then they kept forwarding him to a different department saying he wasn't sending it to the correct place. Didn't seem a priority for them tbh

Took a few months for them to actually contact and cancel mine was a right pain. My ex partner let them know and I applied for a student visa.. Didn't read the bridging visa grant properly and didn't realise my bridging visa wasn't in effect due to my 457 defacto still being in place. Finally read it properly two months later when I started to get concerned I hadn't heard back yet. Contacted the student visa processing team who contacted whoever and I was contacted by phone a few days later to confirm if our situation was still the same and sent an intention to cancel my visa notice

That's what I have been told. Once your visa is cancelled even self requested as I did you become unlawful and even though I was granted a bridging visa e the same day my 4 year lawful residence in Australia re starts

Thanks very much gogita. Good idea about the emails. I feel with so much time off coming up it would be more sensible to wait until the start of next year to bring anything up as I really want to try and do atleast 12 months to be over the genuine effort Mark. Unfortunately as I canceled my student visa and transferred to a bridging visa e to start working for this employer I'm not eligible for citizenship for another four years. Most of the staff feel the same as me so again good advice on maintaining positive relationships. Has anyone else on this forum left before the two years and gone through Immi investigating your case??

Thank you for your reply. It's taken me six years to get residency and I just don't want to risk it but I know it's coming at a price. Work know I have no option to leave and I feel I have no voice because I don't want to cause any issues but I'm not happy with the way I'm being treated. There are no laws being broken so I feel I don't have a leg to stand on if I do leave. I have a month off in November and we close for two weeks at Christmas so I'm just trying to focus on the time off coming up. This is my first rural experience, my partner can't get any work in the town so he's now fifo so I'm stuck on my own most the time with no licence to get around.

Hi everyone. I haven't even completed 2 months of my 2 years yet and I'm already dreading work the next day to the point of tears. I have anxiety so this is contributing to the level of stress and I know I just need to suck it up as they say. However I thought I would enquire to see if anyone was in a similar position and had any advice or tips hat helped them, to help me get through the remaining 22 months. I am planning to do the entire two years as I don't want to risk anything and I started working for this company in January this year.

Has anyone cancelled their visa and been granted a bridging visa E the same day and applied for citizenship counting this time towards their 4 years? I've heard my lawful residence will restart from the date of the bridging visa E grant? If so this is so disheartening due to spending 5 years in aus previously
