Liz24
Hi, has anyone travelled to Australia before having 198 visa completed. I was wondering if once I submitted EOI could travel to Australia and await final visa decision there? Or would I have to leave and re enter? Thanks
path2aus
Since you are applying for the visa offshore, you will have to leave Australia to enter on your PR. You will not be able to stay on when your PR is granted if you are residing in Australia.
RavenBlue
Hi @path2aus, I was told that if you apply offshore but end up onshore on another visa first, then all you have to do is advise DIBP of your change of circumstance and your PR visa would then be granted without an entry date? Then the PR visa would automatically supersede whatever other temporary visa you were on previously? Is what you're saying that you couldn't get the grant onshore? Or that you could get the grant, then you'd just have to leave and re-enter Australia to activate it?
Liz24
So could I travel on a holiday visa while I await my 189? its all very confusing!
Guest
People do so while waiting for grants of other off shore visas. I can't see why this would be any different. They then have to leave Aus for a few days for the visa to actually be granted and then re enter. Inform your CO of your travel plans, flight info etc and ensure they can contact you at the email address you gave them. Else they won't be able to notify you of your visa grant and arrange with you for you to go off shore for it to be granted.
rammygirl
Many visas now can be granted on shore or offshore regardless of where you applied. There is no difference applying on shore or offshore, no need to leave to be granted. This started when the new numbers came in and applies to skilled independent and employer sponsored visas. So just keep your CO informed of your plans. The last visa granted replaces any existing visas so you don't want to apply for a tourist visa at the same time as your PR is being granted!! RavenBlue
Hi @rammygirl, so what happens if I applied for a visitor visa now, but end up getting granted PR before we land in Aus? Would the PR visa be the one activated when we land and the visitor visa just forgotten about? Or would I have to somehow cancel the visitor visa before we go? Thanks

Thanks If your PR visa is granted before you fly, it would over-write the visitor visa and it would activate as soon as you arrive in Australia on your holiday.
