Aerospace Engineer/Systems Engineer.

My partner has a degree in Aerospace Engineering but has mostly been working as a systems engineer(not IT based) for defence companies for several years now. We have our 189 visa and due to leave the end of June to go to Brisbane.

The problem we are finding is that most jobs require you to be a citizen to get clearance and lots of System jobs are IT based. Is Systems Engineering classed under different job titles?  What companies could we contact that may have jobs in this field and that don't need clearance?

If anyone has made the move in this line of work that could give us help or advice that would be great. Or any recruitment places we could contact.

Thanks in Advance

Thanks for your reply.

Yes they do.

My partner was going to do his but hasn't bothered. Don't quote me but I'm sure he said its not needed or recognised over there so didn't see the point. He is going to get certified as a Registered Professional Engineer in Queensland (RPEQ) instead.

The same issue as above applies though. In order to work in defence he will need to become a citizen. Holding permanent residence is not enough

Agree citizenship is preferred for work in defence. However, people with nationality of certain countries and current clearance can go through a process to gain equivalent clearance on a project by project basis.
