Invitation to apply for a Visa (189)

Hi all,

apologies for posting what has probably been asked a million times!

We have been invited to apply for our families Visa (subclass 189) and as you know it says you have 60 days.

My question is.. is it 60 days to start/trigger the process, or 60 days to complete the application and submit? Obviously would need time to get everything sorted, have medicals etc so need to know if we are in a rush or not!

We want to move to Perth December 2017 so are in no major rush but would like it sorted!

On the note of medicals, is it just a case of ringing around private hospitals to get prices or is there a central database?

Many thanks :)

You have 60 days to complete the application and pay. Then you can upload your documents and evidence to support the application.

You do not need to do medicals or police checks before applying, and yes you must go to an approved clinic. There is a list on the gov website. You need your application number to do the meds so they can be linked to the file. You can apply to do them earlier by getting a health Id ( Hap ID), but I wouldn't bother, just wait till asked in your case. You never know what might delay the move and it will give you more flexibility.

Be aware that if you intend to move next December then I would hold fire for meds and police checks for a while. Your first entry date is usually a year from the date of the med or police check ( whichever is the earliest). If you are not ready to move by then you will need to take a holiday to validate the visa adding more expense.

Nothing much will happen to an application you make now because of Christmas hols, many staff take long breaks over Christmas as it is the summer hols and kids are off till feb now.

Thanks Rammy :)

so the main things is making sure the visa is 'complete' within the 60 day timeframe. Sorry to ask for you to spell it out but... what does it consist of to complete the application? is it the online application minus the medical and police checks? What about form 80? when does that have to be submitted?

The way I am understanding it is that you have to complete the bare bones of the application within 60 days and then add to it with your supporting application after this. is that about right? when do they ask for payment?

Thank you so much!

Your 60 days is to complete the online application form and pay the fees (you can find the fee information on the DIBP website). Once you pay the fees, the "attach documents" link will appear and you can upload your documents at any time although it's usually a good idea to get them uploaded within a week or so in case they start processing the application that quickly.

They will ask for the police and medical checks if you haven't done them by the time they start processing the application. They may or may not ask for form 80 so it's up to you whether you want to complete that ahead of time just in case. Whether they ask for any other documents that may be missing is up to the case officer. So if you are claiming experience points and don't provide any evidence of your relevant experience, they could possibly refuse the application for lack of evidence without asking you to provide the missing documents.
