Post grad study finance while in Oz!

Ok, so I'd like to undertake some post grad study via distance learning while I'm in Australia and unemployed.

Trouble is I need a loan, which seemingly I can't get unless I'm on British shores as the loan companies need to run a credit check on me at a UK address-where I haven't lived for 6 years!!

i am a dual citizen of both countries. Anyone got some suggestions on funding for study??!!

HECS loans are available for Australian citizens who are undertaking study in Australia at an approved institution. This includes both on campus learning and distance study. HECS pays your fees, you may also be eligible for AUS study.

The loans are paid back when your salary meets a certain level (can't remember off hand the current amount, but it is above $40,000). If you move back to the UK you still pay the loans back.

Eligibility for loans is determined by residency, not by citizenship. Even if you went back to live in the UK tomorrow, you wouldn't be entitled to a loan because you haven't been resident in the country long enough - and they would make you pay international student fees, too!

Assuming you've been living in Australia for the last six years, then you're eligible for Australian student support. The problem arises if you're trying to enrol for a British distance education course rather than an Australian one, I have no idea how that would work.

Thanks, that's exactly what I'm trying to do-applying for a distance learning course in the UK rather than an Australian one.

By the sounds of it I'm probably best to finance the course out of my own pocket, rather than search for finance.
