That would be The Woolshed I expect l expect in the centre of town. Amazingly still going. Spent many a night in there as they had cheap meal/booze deals back in the 90's.

Good topic! Over 40 years ago now but I remember the heat and contrast from the UK in that regard ( January!) I was shocked at the dreary road from the airport to St Kilda but impressed by the palm trees and disappointed there wasn't a kangaroo in sight! We had no clue what we were coming to really, no idea at all but everyone seemed friendly and easy to talk to.
