Travel insurance

Just curious, why are you bothering?

As as soon as you arrive in Australia you can apply for Medicare, and Medicare will give you a temporary card straigh away.

In around 6 return trips between the UK and Australia, I have never ever had a luggage problem.

Well we feel we need insurance as you never no whether if we loose our luggage, flights are delayed etc. We get insurance whenever we travel on holidays etc.

Total waste of money...if your luggage goes missing the airline will deliver it to your door at their cost, flights are delayed the airline puts you on the next available flight provided your flights plus connections are on one ticket.

^^^^this, some people just believe it when they're told they need insurance. As said if your flights are booked as a complete journey then the airline will look after you, if the airline lose (not looses) your luggage they will sort it. You are paying them for a service, when would you pay for a policy that covers if they do something wrong?

If you have a stopover then that is a different matter!

I must admit, it is not something I think is necessary. There is not a lot that can go wrong between getting on a plane and getting off the other end.

That's where it becomes a good idea - medical cover in case you are taken ill somewhere - it may even be that you are taken ill on the flight, plane diverts and leaves you in hospital = large bill. Worth considering if transiting the USA too, even just to change planes. Their medical bills could bankrupt you quick!
