Diane
In the true and and honourable tradition of South Australia, I would like to take this opportunity, ahead of the AFL Grand Final, to wish good luck to any team that is not Victorian. Give it your all, boys!
Parley
I thought you hated all Australians equally.
Diane
No, only pseudo-Australians like you, Parleycross, who think they can move to my country and turn it into some sort of fenced compound that stops anyone else coming in, and denies help to those who need it most.. Parley
You are ruining my Australia. I'm glad you are banished to Adelaide though. I have never been there and don't think I will ever bother. I've heard it is a real backwater.

Guest
Well, as the Crows didn't make it, in our house we are cheering on West Coast, although husband pointed out they beat the Crows at some point eons ago so costing the Crows a crack at the Grand Final, so many Crows won't cheer for them either  :cute:. Either way, the BBQ is on at our house and the TV has been on all morning, Fox footy stuff. Weather is gorgeous, hoping for a great game

Guest
I don't like Hawthorn as a team and I don't like the West Coast fans (boooooooooooooooooooooo). West Coast have some likeable players though so I will be supporting them. Edited October 3, 2015 by Guest

Diane
@Diane, we have 6 days booked in adelaide next janurary, followed by three in the Barossa, What do you suggest we do? @dmjg Will you be staying in the city for your six days? Check out this for stuff that's happening while you are here http://www.weekendnotes.com/adelaide/january/ The Tour Downunder is in January - always good to watch a stage of that (http://www.weekendnotes.com/adelaide/sport/) If there is a cricket match on, try to get tickets - the Oval is a fantastic ground, and if there is a 20-20 game on or something well worth going along to. They used to do guided tours of the Oval too http://www.adelaideoval.com.au/107/adelaide-oval-tours.aspx- not sure if they still do but I've been told those are good. http://www.saca.com.au/content.aspx?p=1369 During the day I would maybe head for somewhere like Glenelg on the tram - January can get pretty hot. And visit the Central Markets, grab something to eat in China Town there or just browse your way round on free samples. The market is open till 9 on Friday nights and it's a nice atmosphere. Dependent on whether you are reliant on public transport or have your own, Mount Lofty is a nice place to head up to for the views and a coffee, call in at either Cleland Wildlife Park while you're up that way or Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens if you like that. Also the Botanic Gardens in the city are lovely - they do free guided tours every day at 10.30 https://www.rbgsyd.nsw.gov.au/welcome/royal_botanic_garden/tours_education/guided_tours The Zoo is also good and it's possible one of our pandas is pregnant at the moment so there might even be a baby panda when you visit.... If you like wineries, you could visit McLaren Vale from the city as you have already scheduled in the Barossa. The Adelaide Hills wineries are great too, especially if you like whites. Try The Lanes Winery in the Hills - one of my favourites. If you prefer beers, there are a few craft breweries around, and the Coopers Brewery also has tours. YOu can also do a tour of the Haighs Chocolate Factory on Greenhill Road (on edge of city) with free samples. http://tours.coopers.com.au/ http://foodi.com.au/adelaide-craft-beer/ http://www.adelaideitour.com.au/Adelaide-Brewery-tours.htm http://www.haighschocolates.com.au/tours The Rhino Rooms is great for catching some comedy in the evening http://www.adelaidecomedy.com/ and of course there are loads of bars and restaurants in the city - I like the East side - along Rundle Street. There are also clubs and cocktail bars along there too, sometimes hidden up or down stairs Edited October 3, 2015 by Diane

We have a caravan at semaphore beach With two beginner bike riders so open spaces, own transport and early evenings are in, clubs and romantic meals at night, out  Edited October 3, 2015 by dmjg sp
Diane
Looks like there is s bike track along the coast from Semaphore, so if your two are up to it http://easybikerides.com/easy-bike-rides/easy-bike-ride-along-semaphore-beach/ There is also a bike path along the Torrens River - comes out at Henley Beach - which is a good safe place for beginners, and has the advantage of being reasonably flat because of the river! If the beginners are kids they may also like a trip to the Gorge Wildlife Park at the wonderfully named Cudlee Creek. Lovely twisty turny drive up there with plenty of opportunities for wild koala spotting en route. Semaphore is lovely too - you MUST get fish and chips one night from Soto's in the high street - best fish and chips in the whole of Adelaide, always a queue, but well worth the wait. Que Sera Sera
Seems the Vics were the ones kicking some WA arse after all. We were beaten by the better team on the day for sure. Congratulations Hawks. We'll try again next year.
