Indianinoz
Hello, We have applied for Permanent Residency(Visa 189). If all goes well we plan to land in Australia by the year end. Now my question is whether individuals on Permanent Residency Visas are allowed Government Jobs(whether Central or State)? Also, being an accountant, do you think I have a decent chance land up a job from India itself if I show my 189 visa proof once I obtain the same? Que Sera Sera
You cannot work for Federal Government if you are not a Citizen except in very rare cases. You can work for State Government though.

No, you have a very low chance of securing a role from India. Australia is drowning in accountants.
Saviola
Yh I can attest to this, was shortlisted for a very good role but as it was working in a government site albeit as a contractor I had to be a citizen. I am told some state jobs you do not need to be but that will differ on a role and state basis.
