School Fees

Hi Lisa,

We are currently on 457 visa. Cost depends on what type of school u send ur kids to and how old they are.

We initially tried the local high school, they wanted about $15,000 per yr up front payment. We shopped around and found that the private schools (catholic) are actually cheaper, and we pay in monthly instalments. It does vary depending on age. For high school it's roughly $500 per month for high school and for the primary school we pay roughly $400 per term for primary.

I would do research before hand. We are not catholic but were accepted, kids had to do an interview. The teaching is of a higher standard aswell.

Hope this helps

Paul

Hi

We are looking going over to oz on a 457 visa, with this in mind does anyone know what the rough costs are for public school fees in NSW?

Thanks in Advance

Lisa x

With 3 school age kids, gov schools are going to cost you $15k up front pa. Catholic schools, if you can get in, probably around the $9-10k mark for all 3. Not a cheap prospect at all.

Don't think so - if you're eligible you're eligible no waiting time on a temporary visa required. No guarantee that a temporary visa will ultimately lead to a permanent one either.

A good point as many think a 457 automatically leads to a permanent visa, it does not.

Eeks thanks all, looks like I will have to work :(

On a 457 visa, you will get no assistance with the cost of childcare, so (if you can get a place), you'll be up for something between $70 and $120/day for that for your infant depending on where you'll be living. You also get no Family Tax Benefits which, for a family with 4 children, can be in excess of $20,000/year.

And, on a 457, if your partner leaves or loses his job, you have only 90 days in which to find a new eligible sponsor or you must uproot the family and leave Australia.

You REALLY should be investigating whether you can get a permanent visa rather than a 186. If your partner can get a positive skills assessment and the employer is willing, he can apply for a permanent visa via the Direct Entry stream at any time - no need to hold a 457 at all.
