Hi All,

Need you suggestion.

I am an Electronics and Communications Engineer working as test analyst (in IT). I want to apply for assessment to Engineers Australia as Electronics Engineer so I will be eligible to apply under 189. If I apply as Software tester I will be eligible only for 190 (only Victoria ss).

My job responsibilities are that of tester but my qualification is Electronics engineer. My designation is "SOFTWARE ENGINEER' in my first company and "SYSTEMS ENGINEER" in current company.

Is it possible to get a positive assessment as electronics engineer?

That is highly unlikely, as you would need experience in the duties of an Electronics Engineer as per the ANZSCO code

http://www.abs.gov.au/ausstats/abs@.nsf/Product+Lookup/1220.0~2006~Chapter~UNIT+GROUP+2334+Electronics+Engineers

Assuming that your work is primarily software testing, you would not meet this criteria.

Qualifications are far less important on the whole than experience - providing you have sufficient experience you would be able to pass a ACS skills assessment.

My OH is an electronics engineer too and he passed his ACS skills assessment with 7 years experience as a Network Engineer and I have a degree in psychology and could have passed mine as a System tester (didn't need to as I went as a dependent on his)

I assume you are hoping for Electronics Engineering as it is on the SOL but I don't hold out much hope for you.

Sponsorship is a viable option - try PlanIT, they are testing specialists, very reputable and have offices in a number of major cities - they will sponsor good testers. It would be a 457 visa initially which is not without risk (so if you have family perhaps not). They do have a London office so interviews can take place in the UK if that is where you are. I never worked for them myself but I know the managing director very well professionally and used their services in Perth.

In some cases, it would be possible for an Electronics Engineer to get a positive skills assessment from Engineers Australia without ever having worked as an EE. Engineers Australia has no experience requirements for engineers with a fully accredited Washington Accord degree. You would not be able to claim any points for work experience but provided you can score 60 points for your age, English skills and degree (which is quite possible), you would be eligible to submit an EOI for a 189 Independent visa.

If your educational qualification is recognized under any of the accords (Sydney, washington, dublin), you could be assessed based on that as an electronics engineer.

I had a degree from the US (washington Accord), 1.5 years experience working as an Electrical engineer. I did not say anything to EA about my work experience, and they assessed me as electronics engineer.

If your degree is not covered by any of the accords though, different story. your experience matters greatly then.

If not as a EE, then possibly in a relate discipline.

Your job title does not matter, your daily duties is what is assessed.

I suggest you consult a registered migration agent for advice about developing a visa strategy.

The answer to the question you asked, no i did not have to.

The question you are not asking is whether having the Washington accord is back-datable to degrees earned before the accord was gotten. truthfully i am inclined to say it is not back-datable but i believe someone else might have a definite answer for that

If it's not back-datable, how is it possible to get your degree assessed (because of you have had graduated before your degree had the Washington Accord)?

An answer of someone else who had the same way before or an expert advise would be appreciated!

my understanding is your degree program has to be a part of the accord at the time your degree is completed/awarded. if they join the accord after you already graduated, technically, your degree is not covered under the accord.

My Uni has always been a part of the accord, long before i even started going there.

Yes, they did join the accord after i had graduated and i'm eager to know what to do to get my degree assessed? Having no experience working in the related field, i'm in need of help!

Hello,

Thanks that gives me some hope!

I was considering hiring Bravo migrations. How is this agency. Do you suggest any other?
