Hi It is definitely still the case, if you have not completed 20 continuity of care cases during training then you will be offered registration but will have to find and fund 12 months supervision placement in a teaching hospital ... the research that has been carried out by AHPRA show that UK trained nurses do not do this as part of their training and this is what they base their refusal of full registration on

Unfortunately, AHPRA are sadly lacking in elaborating on any information they give ... finding out information is a nightmare as no one seems to know

if anyone wants me to email them with the guidelines I have from AHPRA then please PM me an email address as file is too big to send via the site.

I was offered reg on Monday and was sent these from my case manager. They may not offer a lot of help, but my understanding is that we engage in employment (paid) and a plan is drawn up to develop our care.. it is very a personalised plan and it is up to the employer as to how much supervision they feel you need.

I have contacted some hospitals and have had varied responses. Some don't see it being a problem and some haven't heard of it and haven't got a clue yet. The advice is to email the ministry of health/Doh in the state you are interested in and ask for clarification.. basically just to increase awareness of this stupid situation and to help the hospitals get the guidance they need from the 'powers that be'

FYI ladies (and guys), something AHPRA havent mentioned to anyone!... If you havent held a caseloading job you still need to completed 20 cont care cases in order for the notation 'not educationally prepared for mid cont care experiences' to be removed from our registration... I found this out by chance when searching for documents on their website, nothing was mentioned at all about completing these during the process.

Another lack of communication...

Could you please send me info @leep123 ? Well done on your reg and good luck for future and thanks again x

Hi Jen and everyone else,

I had an email last week from

AHPRA stating that the period of supervision will be reduced from 12 months to 3 months. The decision is just being finalised and those already registered will receive confirmation once it's confirmed.

It it sounds like a step in the right direction to me!

hi Leep

Can you clarify this for me please?

Im currently a community midwife in the UK, but Im moving to Oz next month to take up a hospital post.

Ive been given conditional reg from ahpra for 12 months supervised practice for COCE to be completed. Ive not heard anywhere about this being reduced to 3.

helppppppp :arghh::yes::notworthy:

Thanks =)

Hi Timothytoad,

comgrats on securing a job, where qill you be working?

Basically I had heard of someone who appealed with no caseloading experience and had her supervision reduced to 3 months. Understandably upset at that (when I was told not to bother appealing, even with caseloading exp) so I emailed my old case manager and she replied saying that nobody has been given a reduced period of supervision after appealing. She then went on to say that the 12 months supervision is in the process of being reduced to 3 months, for everyone, so it is not on the website at the moment as it isn't official, but will be discussed at the board meeting which should be next week I guess. Following this we will all receive correspondence.

It it means we are able to apply to have conditions removed after 3 months full time practice and if we have fulfilled criteria we will be registered without conditions.

are you aware it is not essential for u to complete the COCE during your supervised practice? I can explain this in more detail is you aren't sure about this too.

Hope this helps

Hi Leep!

Ive got a position in a private hospital in Melbourne. :jiggy:

From what i can gather i can still get registered without the COCE but will have the note on registration that prevents me from doing midwifery led or caseloading practice.

Is that how you understand it?

I waiting 10 months and 143 emails to get this far with AHPRA!!!! :confused:

That's right Timothy but I have been told that they will take career experience into consideration in order to remove the notation.

tou may want to clarify, by I was told that a letter from prev employer detailing your caseloading work and how many women you would have cared for, would suffice for the notation to be removed after the period of supervision.

oh my goodness, I daren't even look at how many emails... They've hada year of my life, that's enough!

Ive applied to a few public hosps in melbourne, they're just looking into with supervision means for them! So fingers crossed I'll see you there!
