geordiegirl68
Hi, depending on the size of your family, the visa alone can cost between £5k- £7k. Realistically, for all you've listed. I'd double that! We have our visas now, but have estimated another £15- £20k at least, for flights, shipping, dog shipping, house rental and car. Good Luck! LKC
I agree that I would probably factor in a bit more. I know that other people have managed on less, but the cost of living has increased hugely over the past few years, and to be honest I think that that would be a bit tight. Have a look on http://www.drive.com.au and http://www.carsales.com.au for an idea of how much a car will cost. Then you will need to add rego, stamp duty (in NSW at least, not sure about the other states), insurance etc to that, plus the cost of driving licenses if you are PR. You may also wish to hire a car for a couple of weeks when you first arrive and will need to factor in the cost of car seats if your children need them. Have a look at http://www.domain.com.au and http://www.realestate.com.au for an idea of housing costs. You will also need to arrange accommodation for when you first arrive. Most people use holiday lets, and depending on the time of the year that you get here, this could add up too. You will need to factor in miscellaneous bits and bobs. Even stocking a pantry up with the necessaries, buying cleaning stuff and all of the other things that you will need to get so that you can manage until your container arrives will cost heaps more than you would think. We bought duvets, covers, sheets, pillows, towels, bath mats and miscellaneous things like that which all added up. I made a spreadsheet before we arrived, which added up all of these costs. You could do this and use the Woolworths/Coles websites to get an idea of costs of cleaning products/pantry items and the Target/Kmart websites to get an idea of other costs. LKC
Hi TeacherBen, I would have been more than happy to have posted it, but it is now coming up to five years since we moved over here and we no longer have the computer with it on or a copy of the file. If you have any costs that you would like an idea of, please feel free to ask and I will help if I can.

VERYSTORMY
I would allow money for living costs until you start work. I normally recommend a minimum of 3 months. Even if you were to have a job secured before arriving you will have a month before first salary, in which time you need to eat and live.
Marisawright
Hi All, Me and the Familywould love to move to Oz... I have just starting to compile a list of costs to moving to Oz, which includes Months Rent Deposit Flights Visa's Shipping Container Spending money Car Is there anything else I am missing, The only sure thing is that moving countries will cost you much more than you think. It cost us about $20,000 - in 1985!!! It's the little things that will take you by surprise. For instance, you need to allow some money to buy essentials for the transition period. Remember, your shipping container will take a lot longer to make the journey than you will. If the shipping container leaves when you do, you'll have several weeks without furniture, pots, pans, cutlery, linen, etc etc. Australian property is rented unfurnished, so you'll have to buy all the basics to get you through that period (unless you're willing to pay for a serviced apartment for that whole time). Alternatively, you can send the shipping container on early. In that case, you may be able to "camp" in your home with the aid of old furniture, the second-best cutlery, or stuff loaned by friends. The snag with that option is that the shipping container may just get there early, and you'll find yourself hit with storage charges.
