Hello!

Ok so less than a month until we get to Australia! getting excited! however nervous too. I have been looking for temporary rentals, like a room for rent or something small and inexpensive until we get things worked out. I have found lots of adds on gumtree, and all homes. I have sent messages but I have not had any responses...:arghh: Help... We need to get something cheap for the first couple of weeks as we will be waiting for that first paycheck to get the rental. And before anyone talks about not bringing enough money, we are bringing what we can, but I am currently living in Mauritius. If anyone knows about the money exchange, basically its almost nothing. so we have been struggling to get this all together. however God is good and is providing! I know he will provide this too with the rental but I just need to know where to turn. Not sure why no one answers their gumtree adds. grrr... Anyways TIA!

Just keep trying - I think Gumtree sends an email and it depends how many other people message! I know I've never had many replies asking questions there - even when trying to buy things!

I would recommend you look into a hostel or hotel for the first night or two, so at least you've settled when you first arrive, then head off to meet/go to a home! :) (dorm bed should be about $20-30 a night, in Melbourne, others should be around the same!)

Try www.stayz.com.au for short term rentals, they specialise in holiday lets. Alternatively, you can get short term rentals on www.allhomes.com.au - go through the search function and you will see the option for a short term let. I know there are a couple in Ainslie which would be handy for where you will be working. Alternatively you could ask your employer to put you up in a hotel for a few weeks. Very close to where you will be working is one of the cheapest motels in town - used tobe called Formule1 but I believe may now have changed its name to Ibis Budget or similar - rooms are very basic but might get you out of a hole. Sadly, Canberra and cheap are not words that go together in the same sentence.

added - there's also www.wotif.com
